Researchers conducted a two-year field study at six railway stations in a German nature park, comparing the attraction of flying insects to three common light sources:

๐Ÿ”น Amber 1800K LEDs (narrow-spectrum, no blue wavelengths)
๐Ÿ”น Cool white 4000K LEDs (broad-spectrum with significant blue content)
๐Ÿ”น High-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps (traditional yellow-orange lighting)

To ensure robust, unbiased data collection, the researchers used cutting-edge methodologies, including AI-powered image analysis and DNA metabarcoding, to track insect abundance, biomass, and species richness under actual operating conditions.

The findings were nothing short of remarkable โ€ผ๏ธ :

1) The amber 1800K LEDs attracted 40-50% fewer insects and over 50% less biomass than the other two light sources. This reduction is attributed to their narrow spectral output and the absence of short-wavelength blue light.

2) Critically, the study found that HPS and 4000K LEDs performed similarly, suggesting that Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) alone is not a reliable indicator of insect attraction. The is key.
