🏭 Sheet Metal Drawings Ready? How Soon Can You Get the Parts in Hand?

A sheet metal part can be laser cut quickly and still be days away from shipment.

Once cutting is finished, the job may still need bending, welding, hardware installation, surface finishing, and final inspection. For customers working toward an assembly or production date, the full manufacturing route matters more than the speed of one process.

That’s why we look at the whole job before production starts, not just the laser cutting time.

📦 Only Need 5 CNC Parts Now? Tell Us What Comes Next.

When we see “Qty: 5” on an RFQ, one detail is always useful to know: is that the full order, or are these 5 parts for testing before a larger batch?

If it’s a one-off order, setup, programming, and inspection are spread across only a few parts, so the unit price will naturally be higher.

If the plan is more like “5 pcs for approval, then 100 or 200 pcs”, that gives us a better picture of the project. We can already consider the later quantity when planning fixtures, tooling, and inspection.

🧩 Your Prototype Is Approved. Can the Next 100 CNC Parts Match It?

Some customers come to us after the prototype has already been made and tested locally. The fit is right, the look is approved, and now they need 50, 100, or a few hundred CNC parts.

At this stage, the approved prototype becomes very useful.
📏 For fit, we check the mating dimensions and tolerances on the drawing.
🎨 For appearance, customers can send us the approved sample or color swatch if the anodized color, paint, texture, or gloss needs to stay consistent.

A photo is helpful, but when appearance really matters, a physical reference gives both sides a much clearer target.

📸 Need CNC & Sheet Metal Parts Made, but Only Have a Photo?

Sometimes, we do get inquiries like this: a customer sends us a photo of a part and asks whether we can make it.

From the photo, we can usually get a rough idea of the part and the possible machining process. But to review the job properly and prepare a quote, we still need the project details:
📐 2D drawing + 3D model
🔩 Material
📦 Quantity
🎨 Surface finish or post-processing

The drawings are especially important because dimensions, tolerances, threads, fits, and other critical details simply aren’t visible in a photo.

If a photo is all you have at the beginning, send it over. We can take a first look and let you know what information is still needed before quoting.

🎨 Your CNC Part Is Finished. But Is the Surface Finish What You Expected?

We recently had a CNC metal project almost ready to ship when the customer sent us a reference photo of the finish they wanted. Our parts had already completed the specified finishing process, but the actual surface looked darker and more matte, while their reference was brighter and glossier.

If appearance matters, it helps to share these before finishing starts:
📷 Reference photo or approved sample
🎨 Expected color and gloss
🔍 Which surfaces are cosmetic

A reference photo won’t replace a proper finish specification, but it can make the visual target much clearer from the beginning.

⚖️ Need corrosion resistance, but stainless steel is adding too much weight to your part?

We’ve seen this in moving assemblies and automation projects. Stainless steel met the corrosion requirement, but the extra weight was not ideal for the final design.

Anodized aluminum also worked for some structural parts, engineering plastics suited lighter-duty applications, and titanium made sense where strength and corrosion resistance were both critical.

The useful question is simple: what does the part actually need to survive in service?

When customers come to us for second-source support, the part is often already proven. The drawing is approved, material and finish are confirmed, and the key inspection points are already clear.

So there’s usually no need to start from zero.

At Beska, we prefer to begin with one representative part or a small batch, then compare the things that already matter to the project: part quality, inspection results, documentation, communication, and repeatability. ⚙️

This gives both sides time to build confidence before the backup source is actually needed.

We’ve had projects where the drawing was clear and the dimensions passed inspection, but the final test still didn’t go as expected.

The missing piece was the part’s actual working condition.

🔥 High temperatures
💨 Sealing performance
⚙️ Repeated movement or load

These details can affect the material, heat treatment, surface finish, and machining approach.

You don’t need to share confidential product details. Simply telling us where the part will work and what it needs to do can help us make better decisions before machining starts.

📦 Need 100 CNC parts for a new design? Sometimes starting with 5 can save you from reworking the other 95.

For a new part, those first few pieces give you a chance to put the design into the real assembly before the full batch moves forward.
🔩 Does the part fit the mating component properly?
📐 Are the critical dimensions working as expected?
🧵 Do the threads, inserts and hardware assemble smoothly?
🎨 Does the finish look and feel right on the actual product?

If everything checks out, the remaining quantity can move forward with much more confidence. If something needs changing, you find it while there are still only 5 parts on the table, not 100 finished parts waiting for rework.

✅ For a proven repeat order, this step may not be necessary. For a new design or recent revision, it can be a very practical way to move into production.
