Material selection for public construction projects balances aesthetics, durability and construction efficiency.

This completed project covers four typical application scenarios:

▪ Suspended vanity counter for restroom
▪ Floor for building atrium
▪ Custom kitchen countertop
▪ Dining tables for restaurant

Different materials are adopted for different zones:

Quartz stone for vanity & kitchen countertops, featuring dense structure, low water absorption, stain & scratch resistance, keeping clean under heavy daily use.

Inorganic terrazzo for public atrium floor, delivering seamless appearance and great wear resistance for high foot traffic.

Dining table surfaces are stain-resistant and easy to clean, suitable for frequent disinfection in catering spaces.

From lobby, kitchen & washroom to dining area, we provide zone-based material solutions according to load, abrasion and maintenance requirements. One-stop surface material supply for hotels, commercial complexes and transport hubs across global regions.

Material waste is a key factor affecting total cost for stone projects.

Wayon’s three-step material saving solution controls slab utilization starting from drawing phase:

✅Layout Optimization: Smart nesting based on drawings, maximize usage of every slab
✅Nested Cutting: Uniform cutting plan per batch, greatly reduce offcut waste
✅Precision Machining: Clean cuts without chipping, right-first-time production

From drawing to finished pieces, full process under control. We help large-scale public & hospitality projects across the globe manage material costs.

Look at Wayon's project list and the geography itself tells the story.

In China: Shanghai Shipping Center office tower and HKRI Taikoo Hui in Shanghai specified quartz, while a hospital in Changde and the Foshan Municipal Party School went with terrazzo.

Beyond China: a hotel in Dominica, a Hilton in Congo, a chain restaurant in Canada, an apartment development in Finland, Vendome Mall in Qatar, and a seaside resort development in the US.

What links them isn't one material. It's one capability — matching the material to the local code, climate, aesthetic and programme. A Caribbean hotel has to handle salt mist and humidity. A Nordic apartment development has to handle temperature swings and indoor heating. A Middle East mall needs lobby-grade visuals alongside high-traffic floor durability. A hospital puts fire performance and low emissions first.

Serving 80+ countries means every shipment meets a different certification basis, a different packing and customs expectation, a different installation culture. That's why project clients increasingly prefer a single source covering quartz, terrazzo, flexible stone, sintered stone and natural marble. Not for convenience — to avoid the spec conflicts and blurred accountability that come with splitting a package across suppliers.

The first reaction to "zero-silica quartz" is usually: if you take the silica out, what's left of the hardness?

Start with the silica itself. Traditional engineered quartz uses a polyester resin binder, leaving slabs with up to around 90% crystalline silica by weight. The finished slab isn't the problem — fabrication is. Cutting, grinding and polishing release that silica as respirable dust, and prolonged exposure causes silicosis: progressive, irreversible, potentially fatal.

Zero-silica quartz keeps the quartz aggregate and replaces the binder, encapsulating the particles so respirable silica dust isn't generated at source. The production sequence is unchanged — raw material selection, mixing, vacuum vibro-compression, curing, surface finishing. One link in the formula is different.

Performance doesn't drop: Mohs hardness 7, flexural strength ≥ 45 MPa, water absorption < 0.02%, Class A2 fire rating, antibacterial surface. In daily use it barely absorbs at all — w**e, coffee, oil and acidic foods leave no mark, and no periodic sealing is required.

What really changes is who benefits. Fabricators no longer build their production day around dust extraction, wet cutting and medical monitoring. Designers can specify it confidently in healthcare, education and food-service spaces. Owners get a surface that needs nothing.

Health, compliance, zero maintenance, full colour range — that's what "zero-silica" actually means.

In September 2026, Dubai Airports reaffirmed its long-term expansion strategy.
The material playbook for these mega transport hubs is a benchmark for all public buildings.

Airports demand layered performance from surfaces — wear resistance, fire safety, low weight, easy maintenance, custom shaping and long-term replaceability. No single material ticks every box, so zone-specific specification is standard:

▫️ Terminals / VIP: Natural marble, inorganic terrazzo
▫️ High-traffic flooring: Inorganic terrazzo, natural stone
▫️ Curved walls: Flexible MCM stone
▫️ Washrooms / vanities: Zero-silica surfaces, quartz, porcelain slabs
▫️ Retail / F&B counters: Zero-silica, quartz, marble
▫️ Elevator lobbies: Flexible stone, marble, porcelain slabs
▫️ Back-of-house: Terrazzo, porcelain, worktops

The real challenge isn’t the slabs — it’s standard panels, cut-outs, counters, vanities, custom details and phased delivery.
That’s why supply + fabrication + project management come as one package: zoned, numbered and sequenced for smooth site installation.

For your next public build: map your material matrix by zone first, then talk pricing.

Four hundred identical rooms is not four hundred easy rooms. It's the hardest version of the job.

Because a single beautiful vanity top can be made by a good fabricator, once. Four hundred that match — same colour, same vein behaviour, same edge, same tolerance — is a manufacturing problem.

And the failure mode is specific: not that one room looks bad, but that room 387 looks different from room 12. Nobody approves that in a sample. It shows up at handover.

What makes it repeatable:
▸ Cut-to-size against one approved drawing, not per-room judgement
▸ CNC openings and mitred edges produced identically, 400 times
▸ Colour and vein matched in the factory, where the whole batch is visible
▸ Numbered by tower / floor / room, packed in install sequence
▸ Every panel logged — so room 387 can be reproduced in year seven

Crews unpack, read the number, and install. Nobody on site is asked to make an aesthetic decision.

Repetition doesn't reduce the standard. It removes the chance to get it wrong.

Four numbers decide whether a terrazzo floor performs for twenty years.

① Mohs hardness: 5–6
The practical answer to "will it scratch." Hard enough for luggage trolleys, maintenance equipment and dense footfall — written into the spec, not discovered after handover.

② Water absorption: 0.08–0.12%
Low absorption means less staining, easier cleaning, and stable behaviour in wet or high-traffic zones. This is the number that matters most in concourses, lobbies and F&B areas.

③ Dry flexural strength: 14.4–15.5 MPa
Governs how the slab resists bending under load — the property that actually matters for large-format flooring over substrate movement and point loads.

④ Fire classification: A1
Non-combustible. Keeps the floor out of the fire-engineering conversation entirely — which is what transit, healthcare and education projects need.

———

Our inorganic terrazzo is a resin-free inorganic system, supplied as prefabricated slabs — so all four are produced under factory control, not achieved on your floor.
