Miller Plate Jacket in Brewing Equipment
The Miller Plate Jacket, also known as honeycomb jacket, is a high-efficiency heat exchange jacket widely applied to beer, fruit wine and liquor fermentation tanks, serving as an upgraded and energy-saving temperature control structure for brewing vessels.
1. Structure & Working Principle
Miller plates are made of food-grade 304 or 316L stainless steel sheets with pressed dense honeycomb concave-convex points. The plates are fully welded and laminated on the outer wall of the tank inner shell.
A closed, turbulent flow channel is formed between the Miller plate and the tank body. Cooling medium (glycol, chilled water) or heating medium (hot water, low-pressure steam) circulates inside the honeycomb cavity to realize rapid and uniform heating, cooling and constant temperature control for brewing liquid.
2. Core Advantages
1. Efficient Heat Transfer
The honeycomb flow channel creates strong fluid turbulence, greatly improving heat exchange efficiency. Its thermal performance is 2-3 times that of traditional full jacket, ensuring fast temperature adjustment.
2. Uniform Temperature Control
No local overcooling or overheating. It stably maintains the fermentation temperature, avoids flavor deterioration and improves the consistency of wine quality.
3. Lightweight & High Structural Strength
The integrated honeycomb support enhances pressure resistance. Thinner stainless steel materials can be used to reduce the overall weight and manufacturing cost of the equipment.
4. Sanitary & Easy Maintenance
Adopted external jacket design without internal cooling coil dead corners. It is fully compatible with CIP cleaning system, effectively preventing bacteria breeding and meeting food hygiene standards.
5. Durable & Anti-leakage
Integrated welding process, strong pressure resistance, stable operation for a long time, not easy to deform or leak.
3. Main Application in Brewing
• Fermentation tanks: Precise temperature control for main fermentation, diacetyl reduction and cold storage conditioning.
• Bright beer tanks & storage tanks: Constant temperature preservation, preventing wine deterioration and oxidation.
• Mashing tanks and boiling kettles: Auxiliary heating to avoid material burning.
• Fruit wine and wine tanks: Low-temperature fermentation and flavor stabilization.
4. Comparison with Other Jackets
• Miller Plate Jacket: High heat efficiency, light weight, low cost, excellent temperature uniformity, the mainstream choice for medium and large craft breweries.
• Half-pipe Jacket: High pressure resistance, suitable for large industrial brewing equipment.
• Traditional Full Jacket: Simple structure but low heat exchange efficiency, mostly used for small brewing equipment.
• Internal Coil: Fast cooling speed, but with sanitary dead corners and difficult cleaning.
