Factors that affect the price of prepainted steel (Part II)
Paint quality (brand)
Paint quality is one of the important factors affecting the price of color coated steel. Paint of high-end color coated steel is made from world-famous brands, such as Akzo, Nippon, Becker, PPG, KCC, etc. They can be used for at least 8-10 years without fading under normal conditions. Mid-range color coated steel uses domestic brand paint, and the fading time ranges from 3 to 6 years. The quality of low-end paint is relatively poor. It will fade in 1-2 years, and some will fade quickly in half a year.
Paint film thickness
The thinner the paint film, the shorter its service life, and vice versa. It is recommended that the paint film thickness should be no less than 15 microns for the front (primer + topcoat), and no less than 5 microns for the back, with 17~25 on top and 7~10 microns on back being the best. If it is a high-grade paint such as HDP, SMP, PVDF, the topcoat is generally no less than 22-25 microns, and the back coat is no less than 10 microns.
Quality Standard
Generally speaking, prepainted steel is delivered in accordance with national testing standards required by customers in different countries. However, if one or more of the properties are required to meet special requirements, such as the T bending must reach 0T, the pencil hardness must reach 3H, etc., there will be a price increase in these cases.
Linear meters per ton
The thickness tolerance of prepainted steel is +/-0.02mm, and generally it is a negative tolerance. When customers send inquiries, it is best to indicate whether it is TCT (total coated thickness) or BMT (base material thickness), because below 0.3mm, especially within 0.2mm, the price difference caused by the tolerance of 0.01mm will be very large, this required special attention. It is recommended that when customers purchase thin coils, specify the linear meters per ton.
Single sided painting/double sided painting
Similar to the thickness of the paint film, double-sided painting requires one more process than single-sided, and more paint is used, so the price is naturally higher. Basically all factories can do double sided painting. Some customers require three times of painting. Because the process is much more complicated, only a few factories can do it, and the cost will be much higher than ordinary color coated steel.
Color
According to the RAL color card, the prices of prepainted steel of different color systems also vary. For example, blue, gray, and brown colors are cheaper, green and white are medium, red, purple, orange, and yellow are higher, and metallic colors are the highest.
