How can we use volumetric efficiency to know the actual condition of a hydraulic pump?(2)
1 How to konw the volumetric efficiency of a hydraulic pump?
(1) How to calculate volumetric efficiency
The volumetric efficiency of a hydraulic pump is determined by dividing the actual flow rate delivered by the pump at a given pressure by its theoretical flow rate.
The theoretical flow rate is calculated by multiplying the pump's displacement per revolution by its drive speed. Therefore, if a pump has a displacement of 100 cc/rev and rotates at 1000 RPM, its theoretical flow rate is 100 L/min. The actual flow rate must be measured using a flow meter. For example, when testing, the actual flow rate of the above pump at 200 bar is 90 L/min. We can say that the volumetric efficiency of the pump at 200 bar is 90% (90/100 = 90%).
(2) How to use volumetric efficiency to know the condition of the pump?
Volumetric efficiency is the parameter we use most often on site. It is an indicator of the condition of the hydraulic pump. It can be used to see whether the hydraulic pump has increased internal leakage due to wear or damage of parts. If there is no theoretical flow as a reference, the actual flow measured by the flow meter is meaningless.
