We use gauge blocks to calibrate micrometers.
Then you may ask: who calibrates gauge blocks? Chicken‑and‑egg problem?
Factory micrometer cannot verify master gauge blocks.
Gauge blocks follow a traceability pyramid.
At the very top, laser interferometer measures master gauge blocks directly against the definition of "meter" — light wavelength, no reference block needed.
Every working gauge‑block traces back to this optical primary standard.

Larger dimensions pose greater challenges for tight‑tolerance machining. Despite zirconia ceramic’s low thermal‑expansion property, errors tend to be amplified with increasing workpiece size, caused by machine deflection, clamping deformation and thermal expansion.

In this demonstration, we complete zero-set calibration for a three-point internal micrometer using a certified master ring gauge (temperature-standardized calibration ring at 20°C) to eliminate systematic measurement error.

🔹 3 = 3-start multi-thread

Double-ended integrated gauge with GO (T) & NOT GO (Z) ends. Made of GCr15 bearing steel with precision heat treatment for consistent dimensional accuracy.
Technical Challenges
This gauge combines multiple non-standard features: multi-start thread + left-hand rotation + trapezoidal profile. It is not available off-the-shelf. Custom process planning, thread profile grinding and left-hand thread calibration are all required.
