When purchasing pipeline steel pipe, buyers often focus on steel grade, wall thickness, chemical composition and mechanical properties.
But for certain projects, especially pipelines operating under demanding or lower-temperature conditions, fracture resistance is another important consideration.
The Drop Weight Tear Test, commonly known as DWTT, is used to evaluate how pipeline steel behaves during fracture propagation.
For some API 5L pipeline pipe specifications and project requirements, this test can become part of the inspection and acceptance process.
That is why a complete inspection package should not be judged only by the MTC. The required testing standard and project specification need to be confirmed before production.
