The power of panda! China builds the world's first panda-shaped power plant
The world’s first giant panda-shaped power plant was completed in Datong, north China’s Shanxi province on July 6 , 2017.
The project was implemented by Panda Green Energy, a Hong Kong-based renewable energy developer (formerly known as United Photovoltaics).
According to PV-Tech, the PV power plant has just launched the first phase with capacity of 50 megawatts. After it reaches full capacity, it will generate 100 megawatts, providing 3.2 billion kWh of green electricity in 25 years, which is equivalent to saving 1.056 million tons of coal and reducing 2.7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
In May 2016, Panda Green Energy came up with the idea of giant panda-shaped power plant. It later signed an cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program and launched the construction in November last year. And the company is now planning to build more similar power plants in 5 years.
The panda-shaped power plant undoubtedly consists of two colors: black and white. The black parts of the adorable panda, including paws and ears, are monocrystalline silicon solar panels; the white parts are made of thin film solar cells.
