🔹 CIP or Pigging — Do You Really Have to Choose?
Can a pigging system replace CIP? The answer depends on your process.
🧼 CIP = Cleaning & Sanitization
In hygienic industries such as food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and cosmetics, CIP is used to clean and sanitize pipelines and processing equipment.
🔵 Pigging = Product Recovery
Pigging removes valuable product remaining inside the pipeline before cleaning.
For many hygienic processing lines, they can work together:
Pigging → Product Recovery → CIP
This means more product can be recovered before the CIP cycle begins, with less residue left inside the pipeline.
💡 But not every pigging application requires CIP.
In battery slurry and certain chemical processes, pigging can also be used for product recovery and residue removal where hygienic CIP is not required.
✅ So, Pigging or CIP?
Sometimes you need one. In hygienic processing, you may need both.
