We are proud to share that dormakaba has been named one of Europe's Climate Leaders by the Financial Times and Statista — for the third consecutive year.

The annual ranking recognizes European companies that achieved some of the strongest reductions in greenhouse gas emissions intensity between 2019 and 2024, while also demonstrating broader climate-related commitments.

Being recognized three times in a row reflects something we take seriously: that reducing our environmental footprint is not a one-time effort but an ongoing commitment we strive to sustain year after year.

When the sun sets, cities don't shut down. But they get decisively transformed.

Foot traffic thins, perception of risk rises, and the same streets that felt open at noon can feel uncertain by midnight. Designing for that shift is one of urban planning's most underappreciated challenges.

Safe cities after dark aren't built by restricting access. They're built by adapting it through lighting, layout, and solutions that keep public space genuinely open and welcoming around the clock. The difference between a city that works at night and one that doesn't often comes down to decisions made long before the lights go on.

We explored what thoughtful nocturnal urban design actually looks like in practice, and we are sharing our findings in the dormakaba Blog.

What happens when access technology meets one of the most extreme environments on the planet? ❄️

At the Sorrisniva resort in Alta, Norway — 380 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle — dormakaba has completed a first-of-its-kind pilot project: an automatic sliding door integrated directly into the living structure of the world's northernmost ice hotel. The challenge was real: temperatures down to minus 30°C, ceilings that sink by up to a meter as the ice shifts, and a guest experience that cannot be compromised.

The solution at the heart of this project is MotionIQ, our intelligent door technology that optimizes automatic door operation and can reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions by up to 50%. Smart access solutions were also deployed across the full resort — from the restaurant to the central entrances of the Arctic Wilderness Lodge — ensuring seamless, barrier-free visitor flow throughout.

Beyond the engineering achievement, this project is a live testing ground. The insights gathered here will directly inform the development of access technologies that make buildings worldwide more energy-efficient, reliable, and comfortable — no matter the conditions.

We are excited to announce that dormakaba has received recognition at both the International Business Film Days (Internationale Wirtschaftsfilmtage ) in Vienna and the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards.

Our film portrait featuring the architect Sara Klomps received a Silver award in Vienna and two finalist nominations in New York. The film showcases Sara Klomps’ work on The Henderson building in Hong Kong and demonstrates how dormakaba’s access solutions contribute to creating seamless, open, and sustainable buildings.

This achievement is a testament to everyone involved in bringing this story to life: Sara Klomps, Zaha Hadid Architects and Filmgerberei

Over the past few weeks, we've been exploring a question that matters to every industry navigating the rise of intelligent systems: not whether AI will change how we work, but whether we're approaching that change with enough honesty and discipline.

We started with where AI still fails. We moved through what smart implementation actually looks like in practice, into the emerging science of recursive meta-cognition, and finally to the hardest question of all: how humans and AI systems can build the kind of trust that makes real-world collaboration possible.

At the turn of the 20th century, a group of young German creatives decided that a door handle deserved as much artistic intention as a painting. That idea had a name: Jugendstil.

Rooted in the concept of the 'Gesamtkunstwerk' — the "total work of art" —, Jugendstil imagined every element of a space as part of a single, coherent vision. From furniture to façades, from graphic design to the hardware on your door, nothing was too small to be beautiful and nothing was too functional to be meaningful.
