Last week, our long-standing partner for the Benelux region, De Ridder, celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Around 260 guests, including customers, suppliers, employees, and their families, came together to mark this special occasion.

For the eighth time, STUDER is inviting graduates from European universities and institutes of technology to participate in the Fritz Studer Award.

The award recognizes outstanding research and development work in areas such as machine tool technology, digital solutions, sensor systems, simulation models, alternative materials, and advanced manufacturing technologies. The winning project will receive CHF 10,000.

The award offers young researchers a platform to present innovative ideas and practical solutions that can contribute to the future of the machine industry.

W-axis – Automation for varying workpiece lengths

The W-axis automates the positioning of the tailstock and, depending on the configuration, the in-process measuring head, making it easier to machine part families with varying workpiece lengths. Programmed, precise positioning eliminates manual setup work and supports repeatable grinding processes.

The tailstock position is stored in the grinding program and automatically adapts to the workpiece length. This significantly reduces changeover times and increases flexibility, even for smaller lot sizes and changing production requirements. Repeat orders can be reproduced reliably, while part changes can be carried out with minimal operator intervention.

What this means in practice

▪️ Reduced setup and changeover times
▪️ Reproducible grinding processes with minimal operator intervention
▪️ Higher flexibility for part families with varying workpiece lengths and different grinding requirements
