Decades later, they are still running side by side.

During recent customer visits, we came across a remarkable reminder of just how long-standing the connection between BUSS and BBA really is: BUSS Co-Kneaders installed decades ago are still running successfully alongside BBA Cooling Technology today.

In powder coating production, the two technologies each play a distinct role in the same process. BUSS Co-Kneader Technology compounds the melt. BBA Cooling Technology cools, solidifies and breaks the material into flakes.

What makes this particularly meaningful is not only the age of the equipment, but the shared process know-how behind it – built through decades of experience, customer applications and continuous collaboration.

Lyocell is designed to be an environmentally friendly cellulose fiber. Traditionally, its cellulose comes from wood. But what if tomorrow's Lyocell could be made from discarded cotton textiles instead?

That's the goal of textile circularity—and a major opportunity for the textile industry.

Cotton consists of almost pure cellulose. Its longer polymer chains and narrower molecular weight distribution enable the production of regenerated fibers with higher tenacity.

At the same time, post-consumer cotton textiles represent one of the world's largest untapped cellulose resources. Today, global cotton production is around five times greater than the production of man-made cellulose fibers.

Unlocking this potential requires a dissolving technology capable of handling higher spinning dope viscosities while operating at industrial scale.

This is where LIST KneaderReactor Technology comes in.

With the LIST Kneader Reactor, recycled cotton can be continuously dissolved despite its higher dope viscosities and processed into high-quality cellulose spinning dope for the production of regenerated fibers with superior tenacity. The process is flexible, efficient, and scalable—transforming textile waste into a valuable raw material instead of letting it go to waste.

The finishing step in synthetic rubber production has seen little innovation in decades. Steam stripping remains energy-intensive, generates solvent-loaded wastewater, and exposes operators to VOC emissions. At the same time, EV tire requirements – lower rolling resistance, higher abrasion resistance – are pushing polymer grades that wet-process lines struggle to handle cleanly.

This is what our colleague Brad Yun, Managing Director of LIST Technology Korea Ltd. and Market Manager for Rubber, spoke about in his keynote at the "Innovations and Applications of Synthetic Rubber for Next-Generation High-Performance Tire" forum. He introduced LIST's 2-Step Direct Devolatilization Technology (DDT) as a next-generation alternative to conventional steam stripping:

DDT replaces the wet-process chain with a closed, continuous two-machine line – both built around the LIST KneaderReactor.
The first machine evaporates most of the solvent from the polymer solution. The second finishes the rubber to final specification. Mechanical energy from the kneader shafts and thermal energy from the heated housings do the work that steam and hot air do in a conventional line, but inside a closed system, without crumb slurry or open exposure.

Brad's keynote covered pilot data across more than 11 synthetic rubber grades – including SSBR, NdBR and BR – from a 24/7 two-month continuous campaign, along with the measured reductions in steam consumption, wastewater generation, and specific energy demand versus conventional finishing lines.

Every HV cable runs on a quiet bet: that the insulation compounds will perform reliably for 40 years or longer. Layers only millimeters apart. Yet every layer asks something different of the compounding process.

🔎XLPE:
XLPE compounding is a controlled act of holding back. The peroxide has to be distributed homogeneously into the polymer, without providing enough energy to initiate crosslinking. That asks for
– tight temperature control across the entire process section
– thermocouple pins positioned wherever the process demands
– gentle melting of the LDPE without degrading the polymer

All features of our COMPEO series. The Co-Kneader operates without the localized shear peaks that other systems can produce. Those peaks can compromise temperature control, and any temperature excursion above or below the tolerated window is enough to damage the compounds internal stability. And the higher the voltage, the less the insulation forgives that.

🔎 Semi-conductives:
The semiconductive shields above and below the XLPE insulation layer depend on the aggregate structure of the conductive filler within the compound. Carbon black and graphite conduct electricity because of the way their particles form interconnected structures. Highly structured carbon black provides excellent electrical conductivity, but it requires gentle yet intensive mixing to preserve its structure while achieving agglomerate-free dispersion. This is essential for producing a smooth surface without compromising electrical conductivity.

Our Co-Kneader's answer:�– moderate, distributed shear instead of high-shear forcing�– repeated low-shear interfaces that disperse without destroying the filler structure�– homogeneous filler distribution, even at high loadings

These compounding advantages ensure consistent electrical conductivity and surface smoothness of the semiconductive shielding layers.

Three compounds. Two demands. One process technology that handles both – based on the same shaft principle, the same machine platform, and the same engineering logic.
