It protects bridges, appliances, and aircraft components – without a single drop of solvent. The raw materials start as a dry blend of solid components and must melt and mixed in a viscose phase before become a uniform solid after compounding and cooling before they can do their job. Two process steps decide the outcome – and they have to work together.
First, the BUSS PCS Co-Kneader compounds the formulation: resins, hardeners, pigments, fillers, additives. The challenge lies in achieving the precise shear rate for each specific product while ensuring sufficient dispersion but always preventing pre-reactions. Too much energy input, and crosslinking begins before the powder leaves the line.
Later, the BBA Coolers like the BBA Drum Cooler Type CCC take over. The hot, still-reactive melt is rolled into a thin film, pressed against a cooled drum, and broken into flakes within seconds. Fast enough to freeze the chemistry exactly where it should stop. Precise enough to get a consistent and reliable particle size. Compact enough to sit downstream in many production lines.
Get the process wrong, and the hardener is partially consumed before application – leading to defects in the final coating. Get it right, and the coating lasts decades on the surface that needs it.
