EPFL Space Center - e Space

EPFL Space Center - e Space The EPFL Space Center (eSpace) is a world class academic center promoting space-related education, research and development.

eSpace aims to establish EPFL as a center of excellence in space research. The center typically hosts scientists and engineers working on specific flight hardware project, often in the context of small satellites. The permanent staff of the center boasts a profound technical expertise, with two senior scientist trained at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and often acting as reviewers in the space

community. The internal skillset includes system engineering, mission design, multidisciplinary project management, planetology and actuator development. eSpace is also responsible for the Space Technology courses at EPFL, organising the Minor program in this field and providing teaching. This is often done in collaboration with EPFL labs, which bring their own expertise to the space domain. Finally, eSpace works with EPFL labs, helping them apply their research to space.

Let’s come together!
Organised with the aim of bringing together the entire EPFL space community, the EPFL Space Day began this morning with a welcome address by President Anna Fontcuberta i Morral. The morning saw a succession of speakers at the microphone: Emmanuelle David, who emphasised the importance of collaboration; Daniel Neuenschwander, who spoke about the future of space in Europe, Switzerland and at EPFL; and the student teams, who presented their cutting-edge projects. Galactic Chloé is our talented host and will be with us again this afternoon!

Today, we welcomed French highschool students to the EPFL campus to talk to them about space.

Emmanuelle David presented the activities of the EPFL Space Centre and the challenges associated with the space sector.

The group also had the opportunity to visit the plasma centre and the tokamak.

We were delighted to host this visit and wish these young students every success in their future careers!

Yesterday, the EPFL Space Center held an info session about the Minor in Space Technologies.

After an introduction by Prof. Andreas Burg, Dean of the STI section, and Emmanuelle David, Executive Director of the EPFL Space Center, students enjoyed a short talk by Claude Nicollier, followed by testimonials from several alumni of the Minor.

The ClearSpace Prize was then presented to winner William Martin by Claude Nicollier.

The session ended with some networking over pizza 👌

Thank you to all participants!
