Richard Neutra got to know a site by day and by night. Before building the Corwin House, he spent almost whole nights on the land to understand sunrise and sunset. "It was more about how the house adapts to nature, and then you live with nature, not around it," says Aziz Osko. His renovation carries this idea forward, down to frameless Sky-Frame sliding doors.

Large panes of glass, slender steel, early aluminium sliding doors: bold ideas then, modern living now. The house’s solid stone masonry gives it a lasting presence. In contrast, the long façades feature large openings with Sky-Frame Classic, allowing the living spaces to flow outside so the landscape feels like part of the home. With Casa Corbezzolo in Gallura, Sardinia, Altromodo Architects have reimagined the region’s traditional rural stone house, the stazzo, for modern living across 350 m² (3,767 sq ft) and two floors.

Some houses look out at the forest. This one reaches into it. In the Cotswolds, Broadway Malyan designed a single-storey timber home where the clients wake to the trees. When the frameless Sky-Frame sliding doors open, the living spaces continue straight onto the terrace. "From the comfort of the house, you feel connected to the surroundings," says Hugo Fitzgerald, who led the project.⁠

One level below ground, the living room looks out over a sea of flowers. Where a goat shed once marked the maximum building contours, WillemsenU lowered a large part of the house into the ground and covered the rest with a hill on a meadow in the Netherlands. "It is playing with visibility, alternately shielding and opening the view of the nature reserve," says project architect Marrit Winkeler.
