Modular-based technology is changing the way industrial projects are approached.

Instead of building every conveyor structure from scratch, modular systems use standardized, repeatable components that are designed to work together seamlessly. This approach helps reduce engineering timelines, improve fabrication efficiency, simplify future modifications, and provide greater flexibility as operations evolve.

For industries like mining, aggregates, forestry, and bulk material handling, that flexibility is becoming increasingly important as facilities continue to adapt to changing production requirements and expansion plans.

The conversation around conveyor systems is no longer just about moving material from Point A to Point B. It is about building infrastructure that can evolve alongside the operation itself without requiring a complete redesign every time requirements change.

Compare modular conveyor design with traditional custom systems and see how engineering time, delivery timelines, and future adaptability differ.

Now that so many people are spending time working in their gardens this spring, it’s a reminder of how connected everyday life is to the mining industry.

The stone used in landscaping, the minerals found in fertilizers, and many of the raw materials that help gardens grow all begin their journey through mining and material handling operations.

We’re proud to support the industries behind those materials with custom systems built for demanding environments across North America.

Today’s floor feature in Woodstock is one close to our hearts.

The memorial fire pits in honour of Bruce Stairs are coming together and are now starting to head to their new homes.

It has meant a lot to see the support behind this project and to help create something that will keep Bruce’s memory alive around so many backyard moments for years to come.

Most people notice the conveyor, but the chute is what quietly keeps the whole system flowing.

Material direction, flow control, wear management, cleanup access, dust reduction, throughput. A well-designed chute can make a major difference in how an operation runs day after day.

When it comes to large-scale projects, location can make a big difference.

Our Woodstock, New Brunswick facility is positioned right along major highway routes with easy access into both Canada and the US, helping us move equipment and support projects efficiently across North America.

Combined with decades of experience in bulk material handling systems, it is a big part of how BID Canada continues to deliver dependable solutions with practical lead times and strong customer support.

Conveyor infrastructure projects often involve long lead times due to custom engineering and fabrication requirements, especially on systems with changing elevations and complex layouts.

The Alpha Modular Conveyor System was designed to address those challenges through standardized truss modules and a proprietary coupler system that supports adaptable conveyor profiling while reducing detailing complexity.

In this case study, a mining operation preparing for restart required a faster path to replacing aging conveyor infrastructure. Alpha helped support a more efficient engineering and fabrication process while maintaining the flexibility needed for the project layout.

Review the step by step process for developing an Alpha Modular Conveyor configuration and proposal from initial planning through review.

One of the realities of bulk material handling is that conveyor systems rarely stay exactly the same forever.

A layout that works well today may need to change a few years down the road as production increases, equipment is added, or material flow shifts within the operation. Traditional conveyor structures are often custom fabricated for one specific installation, which can make those future changes more complicated than expected.

That is part of the reason modular conveyor structures have gained attention in recent years. Instead of treating the structure as completely fixed, systems like Alpha use standardized truss sections that can be configured around the operation while still allowing for modifications later if needs change.

For many facilities, the goal is not just building for today’s layout, but planning in a way that makes future adjustments easier to manage as the operation continues to evolve.

No two material handling systems are exactly alike, which is why chute design matters more than most people realize.

Our team designs and builds custom chutes for a wide range of industries including forestry, mining, recycling, manufacturing, logistics, and bulk material handling. Whether the goal is improving flow, reducing wear, minimizing plugging, or fitting within an existing system, every chute is built around the realities of the operation it’s going into.

If your operation handles bulk material, there’s a good chance we can help move it more efficiently and help install it too.

Our highly skilled and experienced team keep the materials being conveyed at the top of mind when designing and manufacturing custom chutes.

As Derek headed out to Vancouver for CIM this week, it was a good reminder of how connected mining and material handling are to everyday life.

The roads to the airport.
The steel in the vehicle.
The fuel being refined and transported.
The aluminum and titanium in the aircraft.
The copper wiring powering the terminal.
The elevators, concrete, glass, and infrastructure throughout the city.

Mining plays a role in almost every part of modern life, and so do the systems responsible for moving those materials from one stage to the next.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by Booth 2005 to chat with Derek throughout the week. We always appreciate the opportunity to connect with people across the industry and talk about the projects and challenges shaping mining and material handling today!
