🎭 For more than 25 years, Manitoba Theatre for Young People at The Forks has introduced generations of children and young adults in Winnipeg to the magic of live theatre.

As part of MTYP’s $9 million Play It Forward capital campaign, SMS Engineering provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for the recently completed renovation.

Our work supported the transformation of Richardson Hall into the Richardson Studio Theatre, a flexible black box performance space. The project also included HVAC and lighting upgrades, along with universal washrooms designed with children, families, and accessibility in mind.

A renewed space, ready to create opportunities for the next generation of young audiences.

Celebrating Wayne Armstrong and a career that’s made a lasting impact on Manitoba’s mechanical industry. 👏

Wayne was inducted as a Pioneer at 𝗠𝗖𝗔𝗠’𝘀 𝗣𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, recognizing his work and influence throughout his career.

With more than 20 years at SMS Engineering, Wayne has been a respected colleague and industry peer, known for his expertise, leadership and the relationships he’s built.

We’re proud to have been part of Wayne’s journey and to see his contributions to SMS and the industry recognized. It was even better to celebrate the occasion alongside Wayne, his family and friends from across the industry.

Congratulations, Wayne! A well-deserved milestone. 🎉

Last week, we joined the Canadian Centre for Healthcare Facilities (CCHF) Conference in Winnipeg as a Bronze Sponsor and presenter.

Scott Hammond joined a panel on the new Portage Regional Health Centre, sharing our experience with design assist and the value of early collaboration.

We also heard more about the vision and partnerships behind the Portage Place Revitalization and Healthcare Centre of Excellence, where SMS is providing mechanical and electrical engineering throughout all phases of the project.

Thank you to CCHF for bringing the industry together and giving us the opportunity to learn, share and be part of the conversation. 👏

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀. 🔋🔥

This , six simple charging habits could prevent the next fire.

Small habits can make a difference. Use the right charger, choose a safe charging surface and know the warning signs when something isn't right.

As forensic engineers, we see what happens when things go wrong. These habits help prevent it.

Save this post as a reminder and share it to help keep fire safety top of mind.

A new 21-storey residential tower is coming to Portage Place Shopping Centre as part of Winnipeg’s downtown redevelopment.

Recently, our team was on site for the installation of a new genset that will provide emergency power for the existing mall and support emergency loads for the future tower.

It’s the first major project at the mall as work gets underway, with plenty happening behind the scenes to prepare for what’s next.

This week, our team took time to listen, learn and reflect ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We welcomed Glenda Gartner from True North Real Estate Development and Carly Sinclair from the Southern Chiefs’ Organization to share their perspectives on partnership, Indigenous participation and collaboration through the Portage Place redevelopment, a project SMS has been involved in throughout.

We also enjoyed bannock, jam and cinnamon buns from local Indigenous business KookumsPantry with our team.

It was an opportunity to reflect on how the work we do and the relationships we build can contribute to economic reconciliation and have an impact beyond the project itself.

Thank you, Glenda and Carly, for joining us and giving our team an opportunity to listen and learn.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝟭𝟱-𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱! 🎉

Richard Honey joined SMS back in 2011, when we were about 60 people. Today, we’re more than 110 strong, and Richard has been an important part of the team along the way.

Over the years, he’s helped strengthen our financial operations, improve reporting and forecasting, support better project tracking and manage the financial side of a growing organization.

Now our CFO, Richard continues to bring his experience and practical perspective to the people, projects and business behind SMS.

Thank you, Richard, for 15 years of hard work and everything you’ve contributed to the SMS team. 👏

☀️ It’s been a busy summer at SMS!

Golf tournaments, fundraisers, team events and plenty of time together outside the office. We’ve made the most of it!

Now, as we officially move into fall next week, we’re looking forward to more good times, familiar faces and plenty on the calendar this fall and winter. 🍂
