Can’t believe it’s been a year already! In April 2025, the SpaceXray research group marked an incredible milestone: the first medical X-ray in space. In a post on X on April 2, 2025, Fram2 Mission Commander Chun Wang shared the first image — a hand with a ring — echoing the very first X-ray captured over a century ago by Wilhelm Röntgen.

The SpaceXray group continues to advance this research — take a peek at these photos from ECR earlier this year, where Sheyna Gifford and David Lerner presented their work.

As health systems look for ways to improve efficiency under increasing pressure, getting more value from existing infrastructure becomes critical.

For critically ill patients, intrahospital transport requires coordination, time, and resources, and is often something care teams aim to minimize when appropriate.

From an imaging perspective, this raises an important question: are we fully leveraging the tools already in place? Radiography is one of the most widely used and accessible modalities, yet its clinical potential continues to evolve.

Advances such as SpectralDR X-ray can provide additional image information beyond conventional radiography from a single acquisition, supporting improved visualization of different tissue types while maintaining the same workflow.
