Vern and Ashling had the opportunity to attend the ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฌ๐ญ, joining researchers, practitioners, educators, coaches, and organizational leaders from around the world to explore the evolving role of mental toughness in helping people navigate challenge, change, and uncertainty.
One of the strongest takeaways was the global reach and growing credibility of mental toughness as both a research field and practical development tool. While mental toughness has traditionally been associated with sport and performance, we heard countless examples of its application across education, leadership, workplace wellbeing, employability, coaching, community development, and health.
The Conference also reinforced the value of bringing together diverse perspectives from different countries, cultures, and professional disciplines. Sharing experiences and learning from one another highlighted both the universal nature of many human challenges and the unique ways organizations are addressing them around the world.
We were privileged to learn from leading voices in the field, including Professor Peter Clough and the team from AQR International, Doug Strycharczyk and Toni Molyneux Roberts, while also hearing thought-provoking presentations from researchers such as John Perry on emerging directions and future opportunities for mental toughness research and application.
A highlight of the conference was Vern's participation on an international panel exploring resilience, positivity, and wellbeing in today's BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, Incomprehensible) world, sharing perspectives on how mental toughness can help individuals and organizations navigate uncertainty and complexity.
We returned inspired by the conversations, research, and practical insights shared throughout the event and excited about how these learnings can continue to inform our work.
