The Musqueam Community Centre was shaped through extensive consultation with the Musqueam Band, creating a modern multi-use facility grounded in cultural values.
Cultural and environmental guidelines informed the building and roof form, material selection, and spaces for traditional art and community gatherings.

Inside, wide and unobstructed spaces provide the flexibility to support both recreational programming and cultural events. An open web steel joist roof system achieves the required long spans, while custom steel framing and composite steel deck flooring work alongside Glulam timber columns, beams, and roof decking.

The result is a structural approach shaped by performance, flexibility, natural materials, and cultural intent.

Decades of laboratory design experience are built on projects like the BC Cancer Research Facility. This 225,000 SF LEED Gold certified facility brought specialized research teams together under one roof. It is also home to Canada’s first gene science laboratory dedicated to cancer research.

To support complex building services and future modifications, our team studied more than eight structural schemes. We ultimately recommended a reinforced concrete structure paired with a structural steel interstitial space.

The facility’s vivarium also required careful vibration control. We worked with laboratory specialists to establish performance criteria and design a structural system responsive to the needs of these sensitive spaces.

Years later, the project remains a strong example of how early structural decisions can support scientific work over the long term.

For the Banff Visitor Centre design competition, the design process brought together various disciplines alongside the architects from the early design stages.
