"As the world marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Katherine Martin stands as proof that curiosity, mentorship and opportunity can open doors to careers that were once thought as out of reach."
Customer Support Lead Katherine Martin was featured by the Government of Nova Scotia for her role as a Techsploration alumna and role model. We couldn't be more thrilled to have her on our team at Ocean Sonics.
We're encouraged by the programs and partnerships across our province that support women and gender-diverse people in creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation.
This week marked the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We're celebrating Katherine Martin--a former Techsploration participant who turned her love of the ocean into a career in ocean technology.
From growing up in Shelburne to becoming Customer Support and Repair Lead at Ocean Sonics, Katherine’s journey shows what curiosity, mentorship and opportunity can spark. Techsploration helped her see what was possible and today she’s paying it forward as a role model, inspiring the next generation in STEM.
With support from the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, Techsploration is expanding hands-on learning for young women and gender-diverse youth. And it’s working: increased skills, confidence and more program participants entering STEM and skilled trades.
Katherine’s message for girls interested in science:
“It’s never too late to start. There’s always a pathway into STEM.”
