Celebrating Our People! 🎉

Last week, we celebrated Employee Appreciation Week at Samco Machinery—a week filled with fun, connection, and plenty of opportunities to recognize the hard work, dedication, and energy our employees bring to Samco every day.

| Planning for the Future

Looking back, one of the things that has helped shape Samco’s success is our commitment to developing the next generation of talent.

For decades, Samco has built strong relationships with local colleges and universities, creating opportunities for apprentices and young engineers to learn, contribute and build their careers.

Our apprenticeship program has brought talented electricians, toolmakers, millwrights and machinists into the Samco family, with many apprentices going on to permanent careers with us.

On the engineering side, co-op programs have connected Samco with some of Ontario’s brightest young engineering talent. Students from institutions including York University, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and the University of Waterloo have contributed to value-driven projects while becoming ambassadors for Samco within their universities.

This focus on bringing in young talent has helped build an engineering team that combines experience with fresh ideas, energy and curiosity.

The lesson from the past remains relevant today: investing in people is investing in the future.

As we look ahead, we’re proud to continue building on that legacy and creating opportunities for the next generation of skilled tradespeople and engineers.

SAMCO'S FIRST CNC MACHINE (1986)

In 1986, Samco brought its first computerized numerical control (CNC) machine onto the shop floor — a major leap from the manual equipment the company had relied on since its earliest days.

CNC technology let operators make precise adjustments on the spot and closely monitor every movement of the machine throughout the day, a level of accuracy Samco had never had access to before. Hai Tran joined Samco in 1987 as the second operator of that very first CNC machine — and remains a valued member of the team to this day. A second CNC machine followed in 1989.

The next big leap came in the early 2000s. As newer CNC models hit the market, Samco made the call to equip every workstation on the shop floor with a new machine.

The results exceeded expectations. Operators could now run two machines at once, programming issues dropped, and Samco saw a 50% jump in productivity.

Today, Samco runs fifteen CNC machines on its plant floor — every one of them tracing back to that first bold investment in 1986.
