Sage Restoration

Sage Restoration Traditional materials and tools for Restoration, Conservation, and Sustainable Building. They knew about good materials and how they worked together.

Craftsmen from the past carefully gathered and passed down knowledge of good materials and techniques for building. They were concerned as much for function and preservation as they were for aesthetic and decoration. In this spirit, Sage Restoration supplies materials and tools for building, restoration, and conservation, using traditional European craft wisdom, materials, and techniques for moder

n application. From the restoration and conservation of National Historic Sites to new construction, it is our aim to work together to help restore and conserve the spirit of craftsmanship and contribute to return the built environment into one that is worth caring about. Please share your stories and photos of your projects and connect with other enthusiasts of elemental building materials, traditional craft work, and craftsmanship. HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR
2023 - PART 2 -
There is nothing quite as epic as arriving at meeting on a tall ship! ⛵️😎
We had a lovely rendez-vous at the to discuss linseed oil paint maintenance. The Chapelle de Tadoussac is the oldest wooden church in North America, and in 2015, the exterior was restored with . Now, after 8 years of maritime exposure, the team at the Chapelle was ready to talk maintenance.
One of the greatest benefits of linseed oil paint is that it is a paint that CAN be maintained. A little here and there to fill cracks where some joints in the wood have opened up; a treatment of purified to revive surfaces where the paint has faded. This sort of simple maintenance can be done every 7-10 years, and it may never be necessary to do a full restoration ever again.
Let maintenance be our New Year’s resolution!
Happy New Year! 🎉✨

We admire the work they do to inform, entertain, and inspire the inner craftsperson in all of us. They have lots of great books (we carry some of them on our website), and you can also give yourself the treat of reading their blog. We’re especially partial to their perspective on “Changing Paints”. 😉

WINTER WORK ☃️🌲☕️🕯️
There is something especially satisfying about finishing projects indoors during the winter. To help accelerate your work, we are offering 1L Allbäck Raw Linseed Oil or 200mL Allbäck Linseed Oil Wax with the purchase of any Speedheater Infrared Paint Remover. Be sure to add the Speedheater as well as the Allbäck product of your choice to your order and use the code WINTERWORK at checkout.
Apply the raw linseed oil or the linseed oil wax to the surface and allow it to absorb before heating with Speedheater. When heated, the linseed oil will work from underneath the old paint and accelerate the removal process. Linseed oil wax works in a similar way, and because it is a thicker paste, it will trap even more dust when scraping away the old paint.
