A steel component that doesn’t always get the spotlight — lintels!
They may be a relatively small part of a building, but they play an important role in the overall performance of the structure.
Steel lintels, like the ones pictured, are commonly used in masonry construction to support the block or brick above openings such as doors, windows, louvers and mechanical openings.
Depending on the span, loading and design requirements, lintels can be fabricated from steel angles, channels, plates or wide-flange sections.
It’s another great example of how even the smaller pieces of structural steel play a critical role in bringing a building together.
