Why Are My Windows Sweating? Understanding Condensation in Cold Weather ❄️

As temperatures drop (and let’s be honest, -30°C is cold 🥶), many homeowners start noticing condensation on their windows. If you’re seeing moisture buildup, don’t panic—this doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with your windows!

What Causes Window Condensation?
Condensation happens when warm, humid air inside your home meets the cold glass surface of your windows. The moisture in the air cools down and turns into water droplets—just like how a cold drink sweats on a hot summer day.

💡 Even new high-performance windows will be cooler than the surrounding walls, making them the first place where condensation appears. This is completely normal and is not a sign that your windows are defective.

To minimize condensation, it's important to maintain the right humidity levels inside your home based on the outside temperature.

How to Reduce Window Condensation:
✅ Lower Indoor Humidity – Use exhaust fans when cooking, showering, or doing laundry. A dehumidifier can also help!
✅ Improve Air Circulation – Keep blinds or curtains open during the day to allow air to move freely around your windows. Use ceiling fans on a low setting to help distribute warm air throughout your home.
✅ Keep Interior Doors Open – Allowing air to flow more easily between rooms helps maintain a consistent temperature throughout the home. Since bedrooms are often kept cooler, they tend to be the first places where condensation forms. By keeping doors open and allowing warm air to circulate, you can help keep these rooms condensation-free for longer.
✅ Ventilate Your Home – If possible, open a window for a few minutes daily to let excess moisture escape.
✅ Use Your HRV or ERV System – If your home has a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) or energy recovery ventilator (ERV), make sure it's running efficiently to balance humidity levels.
✅ Keep Vents & Registers Clear – Ensure heat vents aren’t blocked by furniture, and direct warm air towards windows to help keep glass surfaces warmer.
✅ Increase Your Home’s Temperature – A slightly warmer interior will help keep your windows' inside surface temperature higher, slowing down condensation buildup.
✅ Regularly Clean Windows and Frames – Routinely wipe off any moisture from your windows and keep the frames clean to prevent the growth of mold or mildew. This simple step can help maintain a healthier indoor environment and prolong the lifespan of your windows.

Signs of a Bigger Issue:
While some condensation is normal, excessive moisture (like puddles forming on sills) could indicate improper ventilation or extremely high humidity. If you're concerned about your windows, we’re happy to help!

Stay warm, and keep those windows clear this winter! ❄️💨

🌟 Why Choose Quality Blinds Over Cheaper Alternatives? 🌟

Not all blinds are created equal—even if they look similar at first glance. 👀 Cheaper options, often found online, may seem like a great deal, but their hidden flaws quickly show. Here’s a real-life example that highlights why investing in durable, well-designed blinds is worth it:

🛠 The Case of the Broken Shade
A customer recently came to us to repair a shade they bought online. It was only a few years old, but it had already failed.
The problem?
The headrail was made of flimsy plastic, and the internal mechanism (a mix of plastic pulleys and springs) had cracked.
The broken part couldn’t be replaced, leaving the blind completely unusable. 😕
In the end, they had to replace the entire shade.

✅ What Makes Our Blinds Better?

1. Built to Last
- Our Blinds: Extruded aluminum headrails that stay straight over time and protect the internal mechanisms.
- Theirs: Flimsy plastic headrails that sag, warp, or fail to protect delicate components.

2. Reliable, Serviceable Mechanisms
- Our Blinds: Durable steel shafts and replaceable parts (like strings, drums, springs, or motors).
- Theirs: Plastic mechanisms that easily break with no replacement parts available.

3. Lower Cost of Ownership
- While our blinds may cost a bit more upfront, they last longer, saving you money (and headaches) over time.

4. Environmentally Friendly
- Fewer replacements mean less waste in landfills, making our blinds a more sustainable choice.

5. Local Support
- With us, you get local, professional assistance - we are not a faceless online retailer. If something goes wrong, we’re here to help.

✨Why It Matters

Choosing premium blinds is an investment in your home, your comfort, and your peace of mind. 🏡 You’ll get exceptional value, better durability, and a product designed to stand the test of time.

Next time you’re shopping for blinds, think beyond the initial price tag. Your home deserves the best - choose blinds that are built to last.
