RMD Engineering was thrilled to host today’s PrairiesCan funding announcement at our Saskatoon manufacturing facility.

Through the Government of Canada’s Regional Tariff Response Initiative, $11.6 million in funding has been announced for 10 projects supporting eight Saskatoon businesses and organizations.

RMD will directly benefit from this investment as we continue introducing new equipment and automation, expanding our production capabilities, bringing more work in-house, and pursuing new markets. This support will help us strengthen our operations, remain competitive amid changing global trade conditions, and continue investing in Saskatchewan manufacturing.

We were proud to welcome representatives from PrairiesCan, the Government of Canada, and fellow funding recipients to our facility for this important announcement.

Saskatoon manufacturers are responding to global trade tensions and economic uncertainty by investing in new equipment and automation, expanding production, bringing in more work in-house, and pursuing new markets to stay competitive. They need help to become stronger in the face of tariffs.

That’s why PrairiesCan just announced $11.6 million in funding to support these efforts for 10 projects and eight Saskatoon businesses and organizations through the Government of Canada’s newly expanded $3 billion Regional Tariff Response Initiative. Today’s investments will support new equipment, automation, marketing, market diversification, and expanded production across a range of manufacturing industries.

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do.

In manufacturing, some of the most expensive problems don’t start on the shop floor, they start in the gaps between teams.

A design gets handed to fabrication. A problem is identified and sent back. Controls are added later. Installation uncovers something no one anticipated.

🚀 RMD Engineering is expanding our technical team in 🤖⚙️

At RMD Engineering, we build custom solutions in the One Health space; supporting environmental, human, and animal innovation. As we transition to a more structured, production-focused manufacturing environment, we’re looking for two talented team members to join our shop-floor operations:

1️⃣ Automation & CNC Programmer
🔹 Program G-code, FANUC controls, and industrial robotics (including teach pendants) across CNC mills and automated cells.
🔹 Perform hands-on software and machinery troubleshooting directly on the shop floor to maximize equipment uptime.
🔹 Maintain Git version control and technical documentation for code and program revisions.
👉 Looking for: Technical diploma/degree (Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical/Electrical), 2+ years of relevant experience, and strong problem-solving skills. PLC experience is a major asset!

2️⃣ CAD/CAM Engineering Technologist
🔹 Prepare 3D CAD models, detailed production drawings, and toolpaths for custom fabrication projects.
🔹 Work closely with machinists and shop teams to verify tooling, fixtures, and production setups.
🔹 Bridge mechanical design and practical manufacturing to turn non-standard concepts into reality.
👉 Looking for: Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma (or related technical drafting background), strong CAD/CAM skills (SolidWorks/Mastercam), and a practical, hands-on mindset.

📍 Location: Saskatoon, SK (In-person | Mon–Fri, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
💰 Salary: $50,000 – $75,000/year + full health, dental, and vision benefits

Investing in our people for the long haul isn't just a corporate talking point, it’s about supporting real tradespeople as they build lifelong careers.

Just ask Carson Martin.

Six years ago, Carson walked through our doors at age 19, ready to take a leap and build a real future for himself. Starting out on the floor, he took every opportunity to learn, entering his apprenticeship in 2023 and working his way up to complete his final level toward earning his Red Seal as a Machinist.

Along the way, Carson discovered a passion for the high-precision side of the trade, hitting tolerances so tight you can’t see or feel them with a fingernail. But what kept him here was the environment. Free from corporate red tape and middle management layers, RMD gave him direct access to leadership, open communication, and a team that backed his ambition every step of the way.
