Everyone talks about needing a bigger building. But after walking through hundreds of facilities across Atlantic Canada, I've noticed something:

Most companies don't have a space problem.

They have a visibility problem.

Most warehouse teams don’t think about their racking… until there’s a problem.

But pallet racking is one of the most heavily stressed structural systems in any facility. A small issue today can become a major safety risk tomorrow.

A few key things every operation should regularly check:

• Damaged uprights or bracing from forklift impacts
• Missing safety clips, anchors, or beam locks
• Overloaded bays exceeding posted capacities
• Leaning frames or excessive beam deflection
• Damaged pallets creating unstable loads
• Missing or outdated load capacity signage

One of the biggest misconceptions in warehousing is that if the rack is “still standing,” it’s still safe. That’s not always true.
