Saint John Tool Library & DIY Workshop NB’s first tool library and DIY workshop to help, teach, and share tools and techniques.

The Saint John Tool Library & DIY Centre is the first piece of the sharing economy in New Brunswick that was founded here. We aim to provide an affordable option to our city to access the tools and space needed for renovations and projects. When we look around the city and see so many old buildings we recognize that our city needs support. We aim to provide that space to borrow basic tools needed for renovations and landscaping so that we consume less, share more, and revitalize our city. At the tool library you can borrow a range of tools from a wrench to a table saw with over 800 tools in between. Memberships range from 150$ - 450$ depending on what you need access to. Our workshop is a fully equipped woodworking shop and tinker space that allows members to construct a range of products in. We also provide DIY classes on a range of topics each month to help empower people to take on their own projects, train labourers for the construction industry, and fuel DIY hobbyists.

The holiday workshop season is almost here! Our volunteers have been tidying up the shop. This morning we built two new workbenches to make room for our learners. The final coats are drying now. The 2026 fall-winter workshop schedule will be announced next week. Spots are limited, follow our page and turn on notifications to catch registration when it opens!

This is not yet the fall announcement. We know that the reduced hours have been inconvenient, but we ask for more of your patience. In the meantime, as our volunteer force is growing, we can now keep the library open Friday evenings too!

We're also accepting applications for the workshop, where $200 a month buys you your own key, and full access to our improved woodworking shop.

Thank you for your continued support, and trust in the Tool Library, and a special thanks to the volunteers who have stepped up, are upgrading the workshop and keep the library running.

As many of you know, SJTL has begun to move toward a completely volunteer run organization. After 8 years of being able to maintain more full time staff, our realities are changing. We are operating on reduced hours for the next few months during this transition with more information available at www.sjtl.ca .

Here's our director Brent with some more information and an update.
