When you hire an electrician, there's one question worth asking every time: are they actually licensed in Ontario?

In this province, electrical work must be completed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor and performed by journeyman electricians or properly supervised apprentices. Unlicensed work can void your home insurance and creates real liability if something goes wrong.

Beattie Dukelow Electrical has been a licensed electrical contractor since 2012. Every job is done to code, documented, and backed by a team you can reach after the job is done.

When it comes to your home, your farm, or your business — done right matters.

More homeowners across Eastern Ontario are switching to electric vehicles — and waking up to a fully charged car every morning is one of those simple wins worth planning for.

A Level 2 home EV charger (240V) charges your vehicle 5–8x faster than a standard outlet. But the installation needs to be done correctly — proper panel capacity, a dedicated circuit, and grounding that actually keeps your home safe.

Our licensed electricians handle EV charger installations across Eastern Ontario, from the initial assessment through permits and final inspection.

Already have an EV, or thinking about one? Let us know in the comments — we're happy to answer your questions.

Starting a commercial renovation or preparing a new tenant space? Most business owners don't know what electrical questions to ask — until the project hits a delay.

Ask upfront:
✅ Can they produce AutoCAD drawings for permits?
✅ Are all workers licensed in Ontario?
✅ How will they coordinate with other trades?
✅ What's the plan for minimizing business downtime?
✅ Will inspections be handled for you?

At Beattie Dukelow Electrical, we handle commercial projects across Eastern Ontario with clear communication and real follow-through — from drawings and permits through to the final inspection.

Have a commercial project coming up? Drop your question in the comments or give us a call. We'll give you straight answers.

It's always a special moment when that weekend arrives when dinner moves outside for the first time.

The BBQ gets fired up, the table gets wiped down, and the evening feels longer than it did a month ago.

Around Prescott, Brockville, and the rest of the Seaway Valley, that first outdoor meal feels like a small reward after a long winter.

It’s also when you start noticing how well the outdoor space is set up elec.

Lighting, outlets, and exterior power can make a deck, patio, or backyard feel easier to use once summer routines settle in.

Outdoor living doesn’t need to be complicated. It just needs to be safe, practical, and set up for how people actually gather.

If your backyard setup needs attention before the season gets busy, give us a call or visit our website to book a service visit.

What’s the first thing your family cooks outside when the season starts?

Electrical work shouldn’t feel like a guessing game.

In a busy commercial space, well labeled electrical panels matter more than most people realize.⚡

Months after an install, someone may need to open a ceiling tile, check a disconnect, or trace a circuit. When the work is labelled properly and routed with care, that job becomes a lot easier.

It saves time, reduces confusion, and helps the next service call go much smoother.👌

For business owners across the Seaway Valley and the Thousand Islands, those details can make a building easier to manage over time.

It’s not flashy work. But it’s the kind of work that respects the owner, the staff, and the next tradesperson who needs to understand the system.

The best jobsite details are often the ones nobody notices until they need them.

Your customers know your business by the front entrance. Your staff know it by the back door.

It’s where the day often starts and ends. Deliveries come through, closing routines happen, and staff move in and out when the building's at its most quiet.

It’s one of the most-used parts of a business and probably one of the easiest to overlook.

That entrance should feel practical, well lit, and easy to use. When the lighting, switches, or exterior power aren’t working the way they should, these frustrations can build up and become part of the daily routine.

For small businesses across the Seaway Valley, like around SDG, Prescott, and Brockville, the staff side of the building matters too.

Good electrical planning isn’t only about the spaces customers see. It’s about how your employees actually move and work throughout the building every day.

Before the summer season gets busier, take a look at the entrance your team uses most. If there's a couple things that could use an update or needs a quick fix, give us a call or visit our website.

You know that little pause in the house when something big turns on?

The lights dip for a second, everyone looks around for a second, and then everyone carries on. You get used to telling everyone: “Don't worry! The lights just do that.”

Sometimes a small dip is tied to normal load changes. Other times, especially when it starts happening more often or seems tied to one area, it is worth having a licensed electrician take a look.

Across Prescott, Brockville, Kemptville, and the rest of the Seaway Valley, we often see this in homes where everyday electrical demand has changed over time.

Newer appliances. Older circuits. More devices. It all adds up to more of a load than the home was originally planned for. You don't need to guess at what's happening.

If you see this happening in your home, then a proper troubleshooting visit can help explain what's causing the dip and whether anything needs attention. Give us a call or visit our website to schedule a visit.

Every house has has that one switch nobody touches because nobody actually knows what it does. 🤔

Maybe it's the hallway light that only works when another switch is flipped just right, or the basement switch with a handwritten “DO NOT TOUCH” label that has been there since before you moved in.

At first, it's kind of funny. It becomes part of the house but after a while, it makes your wonder.

Especially when guests are over, the kids are trying to turn lights on, or you are carrying laundry and flipping switches like you are solving a puzzle.

Many homes around Prescott, Brockville, and along the St. Lawrence have been updated over the years, with renovations, moved fixtures, and finished spaces added by previous owners. Over time, those changes can leave the switch layout more confusing than it needs to be.

That is where proper troubleshooting helps.

A licensed electrician can trace what each switch is doing, check the wiring, and help make the home easier to use day to day.

If your home has a mystery switch that nobody understands, give us a call or visit our website to book a troubleshooting visit.

Long weekends always seem to start at the front door. 🚪

The first person arrives with a bag in one hand and coffee in the other, the kids start to run around, and the porch light gets left on late for the people coming in from out of town.

The front porch turns into the place where the long weekend really kicks off. 🎉

In homes across the the Seaway Valley and the Thousand Islands, those little entry details matter more than people think.

Having a working porch light, making sure the doorbell camera stays powered, and having an exterior outlet that is safe and weather-ready. Entry lighting that makes the step easier to see when people arrive after dark.

It's this kind of practical home care that makes a place feel ready for your guests to arrive.

As the Victoria Day weekend approaches, take a quick look at the front entry of your home or cottage. If your guests were arriving after dark, would it feel ready?

If not, we can help. Give us a call or visit our website to schedule a service call before the long weekend arrives.
