We got back from the New York State Woodsmen Field Days in Boonville New York. I just wanted to hop on here and say thank you to everyone. With out spectators, without volunteers, without the locals, without the organizers and without the vendors there is no show!

We’ve had quite a few customers and loggers ask us about running 3/4" pitch chain on the EVO, so we figured the best thing to do was bolt one on and put it to work.

In this video, Andrew goes over the differences between the 3/4" pitch chain and the .404 harvester chain we normally run, why people have been asking for it, and what we’re hoping to learn from testing it.

We also let the machine run for a while so you can see the chain working for yourself. So far, it’s cutting every bit as well as the .404 — and maybe even a little better.

The big attraction to 3/4" pitch is durability. It’s an old-school setup that’s been around a long time, and guys who have used it tell us they can run it a long time without having to sharpen it.

That said, we’re still testing. We haven’t decided whether this will become an option on the EVO, standard equipment, or something we decide not to use at all. We want to get some real hours on it before making that call.

One nice part of the setup is that it’s a bolt-on kit, so if we do move forward with it, there would be a path for guys with existing EVOs to upgrade as well.

We’d really like to hear from anyone who has experience with 3/4" pitch chain. What did you like about it? What didn’t you like? Would you want to see this offered on the EVO?

For years, people have been asking us to put autocycle on the Eastonmade Ultra.

For years, I said it didn’t need it.

Apparently, I was wrong.

The new autocycle option makes the Ultra smoother to operate, reduces downtime between splits and gives the operator more time to handle wood while the machine completes the cycle. The difference in overall production is bigger than I expected.

So now I have to ask:

Was I too stubborn, or was the Ultra already good enough without it?
