Most people assume it’s fine because it looks new.

That’s usually where problems start.

If the vanes are flipped, your engine can overheat fast, and you won’t notice until it’s too late.

It’s a simple check before you close it up.

If you’re not sure which impeller you need, stop by Independent Marine in Coombs. We’ll help you match it.

Suddenly I’m calculating how much I could sell my truck for.

Don’t skip your oil filter this spring.

That filter on the left tells the whole story. Dark, clogged, and full of contamination.

That’s what one season does.

A fresh Sierra filter costs next to nothing. A blown engine costs everything.

We carry the right filter for your boat at Independent Marine in Coombs.

Stop by before your first trip out.

Many boaters focus on the anchor, but the chain is just as important.

The right chain helps the anchor set properly and keeps it holding when wind or current picks up.
Too little chain, or the wrong type, can cause a boat to drag.

Stephen walks through the anchors and chains we carry at the store and what boaters should look for when setting up their anchoring system.

If you’re unsure what setup is right for your boat, stop by the store, and we’ll help you figure it out.

Pressure washers are great for cleaning the hull.

But around wiring, gauges, and window seals, high pressure can force water into places it shouldn’t go.

That’s how electrical problems and leaks start.

A soft brush and proper boat soap will usually give you a better finish, without the risk.

Not sure what’s safe for your gelcoat or upholstery?
Stop by Independent Marine Supply in Coombs and we’ll help you pick the right cleaner.

Boat owners know how this goes.

You go in for one small thing…
then remember a few other things the boat probably needs too.

Somehow the list always gets longer.

Don’t let a tiny cotter pin cost you a propeller.

This small pin locks the prop nut in place. When it rusts or bends, it can fail. And that’s how people lose props.

Saltwater is tough on standard steel hardware. Marine-grade 316 stainless cotter pins hold up much better and help keep your prop secure.

Quick prop check:
• Make sure the castle nut is tight
• Check the prop shaft for fishing line or debris
• Replace worn cotter pins
• Add marine grease before reinstalling the prop

Simple check. Expensive mistake avoided.

One hose clamp on a thru-hull is a weak point.

Below the waterline, always use two.
Band to band. Screws opposite.

It’s a simple fix that can save a boat.

We carry 316 stainless clamps at the shop.

Stop by Independent Marine Supply in Coombs before launch and grab what you need.

We asked a real West Coast boater to try the Whaly 310.

He was done fighting his inflatable. Done with the maintenance. He wanted something his kids could get in and out of safely. Something that would track straight, sit flat, and just work.

Every box. Checked.

The Whaly 310 is built for this kind of use. Calm inlets. Crabbing trips. Lake days. Tough polyethylene hull. Flat floor. Stable ride.

No pumping. No patching.

In stock in Coombs.
