National AccessAbility Week (May 31-June 6) is a time to recognize the importance of creating communities where everyone can participate, connect, and feel welcome.
This year’s theme, “Building a Strong, Accessible Canada,” highlights the role thoughtful design plays in helping remove barriers and creating spaces that support people of all ages and abilities.
When it comes to parks and playgrounds, accessibility goes beyond meeting requirements. From accessible pathways and surfacing to sensory-rich play experiences and quiet retreat spaces, inclusive design helps create outdoor environments where more people can play, gather, and feel a sense of belonging.
At ABC Recreation, accessibility and inclusion are always part of the conversation, but National AccessAbility Week offers an important opportunity to celebrate the impact these spaces can have on our communities every single day.
