This evening around 18:30, one of our firefighters alerted our group of several small ditch fires that he came upon west of town along the highway that he and some community members were trying to put out but were struggling due to the wind and heat. Members started responding to the hall till we were toned out from dispatch.
Nine members responded with two units and worked with passerby’s to get the fires out. Cause is uncertain at this point and is being looked into.
Thank you to motorists for slowing down and pulling over to let us work safely! Us and our families appreciate it! Once again our community members and people passing by were quick to start doing what they could with what they had to contain the fires, which left us with a-lot less work thankfully!
Thank you members for dropping your day and leaving your dinner tables to help protect our community!

We would like to just to post a friendly reminder that should you come upon a fire that no one is around and appears to not be controlled or if there is a fire ban on, Please call 911 directly and not a local firefighter. We are dispatched through PECC (911), so when calling a local fire fighter, it actually slows the process down of an alert being sent to the whole department to get our wheels turning! Please like and share to get the word out!

Just a friendly reminder to have a look at your controlled burns that you have done during the past winter! With the warmer weather comes the chance of your burns re igniting if they arent right out. A bit of time spent checking now could save you and us a whole lot of time down the road!

Yesterday afternoon we were called upon to provide mutual aid for moving water for our neighbor’s at Turtleford &R.M of Mervin Fire Dept. Our tanker headed to scene to help keep the four pumper trucks from Turtleford Fire and St.Walburg Fire depts. fed as they worked on a sizeable fire in their jurisdiction. Upon arrival we were tasked with shuttling water from Brightsand lake to the scene, shortly after we found ourselves meeting St.Walburg Fire Tanker unit, Edam Fire tanker unit and a water truck from the Mervin Rm and also a local farmer with his semi and water trailer on the road numerous times as we all worked together to move water. Turtleford and St.Walburg had a loading station setup and manned to keep trucks moving quickly. The night was long but the mission was accomplished! Thank you to all that supported the efforts and camaraderie shared with everyone, it makes for a solid crew of neigh-boring departments.

This evening at 17:28, tones dropped for a field fire north of town that was encroaching on a bush line. Six members responded to the call and Upon scene size up, it was deemed more resources were needed, so mutual aid was called with St.Walburg fire/Rescue. It was a relief to pull in and see so many community members that seen the smoke and stopped by to lend a hand. Everyone working together made quick work of containment on the fire that had been started from a discbine cutting hay that struck a rock. The fire managed to get into a small area where cattle had been wintered so there was alot of aged material for the fire to burn into. Once overhaul began, both departments had multiple lines strung with pencil nozzles to dig into where the fire had got to, plus trucks with turrets soaking the area. A disc was used to turn the area up to take any risk away.
A huge thank you to everyone in the community for bringing equipment, water to fight fire and food, the saying “many hands make light work” was proven to be true once again! Also thank you to the folks who called to offer water trailers for us to fill from, that is such a huge help when we dont have to leave scene to go fill up! Also, thank you to St.Walburg for coming to help us, its great to have the two departments that work together so well.
Last but not least, thank you to our members that were able to make the call, job well done with everything start to finish.
