Britain's first-ever extreme heat warning is in effect for large parts of England, and authorities are preparing for record-high temperatures to cause widespread disruption.

The 'red' alert will last until Tuesday when it may reach 40 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature ever recorded in Britain was 38.7C in 2019.
