Despite severe weather in 2026, YourAlberta (Government of Alberta)'s resilience projects have protected Albertans from river flooding and reduced flood impacts, the government states.

With multiple heavy rainfall events, including historic rainfall in some areas, and a challenging spring breakup of ice cover on northern rivers, Alberta’s multi-level flood mitigation strategy has helped prevent serious damage to homes, businesses and critical infrastructure. - via Journal of Commerce

Brookfield Residential Edmonton has become the first master-planned community developer to participate in the Built Green Canada certification program with the simultaneous enrollment of its Chappelle Gardens, The Orchards, Edgemont and Desrochers Grove developments, which are all based in Edmonton.

The Built Green Communities certification program offers developers a framework to evaluate sustainability on a human, neighbourhood and global scale. The program’s holistic framework considers health, resiliency, lifecycle sustainability, new urbanism, greenhouse gas emissions, green space and resource consumption. – via REMI Network

The Ontario Association of Architects announced the theme of its forthcoming SHIFT2027 Challenge: The Streets.

The challenge asks OAA architects, licensed technologists, interns, students, and retired members to envision Ontario streets that are inclusive, versatile, sustainable, safe, welcoming, and enjoyable places to be for everyone, including the most vulnerable members of the community. – via Canadian Interiors

Gore Park Residences is a proposed 12-storey mixed-use development that would fill a gap in the historic streetwall facing Gore Park in Downtown City of Hamilton.

Designed by KNYMH Inc. for Ninco Developments, it would bring market-rate rental homes and ground-floor commercial space near the planned Hamilton Line B LRT, and is set to be the first phase of a larger redevelopment extending south toward Main Street East. - via Urban Toronto

Ninco Developments is proposing the 12-storey Gore Park Residences with 161 market-rate rental units and ground-floor commercial space in Downtown Hamilton. Designed by KNYMH, the project would fill a prominent gap facing Gore Park while adaptively reusing an existing 10-storey office building.

The VRCA Vancouver Regional Construction Association and the British Columbia Construction Association are launching BUILDFest, set to take place on September 24, 2026.

The gathering is designed to bring together the construction community to inspire new ideas and meaningful connections, and will feature interactive exhibits, live demonstrations and dicussions, networking, entertainment, and a BUILDFest Block Party. – via REMI Network

The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) and the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) are launching BUILDFest.

City of New Westminster, BC has some of the oldest sewer and water infrastructure in Western Canada, and has begun installing storm sewers, watermains, rain gardens and flow monitoring stations to manage storm water and protect its watersheds.

RAM Consulting of Vancouver is providing consulting services to New West’s engineering department. Designs for the project were nominated for a 2026 Association of Consulting Engineering Companies British Columbia award for engineering excellence in the municipal and civil engineering category. - via Daily Commercial News

Earlier this month, we were honoured to welcome Burnaby Central MP Wade Chang to ACO’s BC office.

We discussed ACO’s mission to protect people from and water from people, and how innovative water management solutions can address challenges facing Canadian communities.

Sustainable infrastructure is built through collaboration between industry, policymakers and communities. By sharing the lessons we’ve taken away from working on major infrastructure projects, we’re proud to support practical solutions that improve resilience in the built environment.
