A point load may seem like a small detail, but when thousands of pounds are concentrated into one small area, the results can be serious.

So, what is point loading? A point load is a concentrated force applied to a specific location. Instead of the load being spread evenly across a larger surface, the force is focused on one smaller point.

Point loading can happen in several different parts of a lifting or rigging setup. Three common examples include hook point loading, crane outrigger ground pressure, and hydraulic cylinder base loading.

Each example involves the same basic problem: too much force applied through too small of a contact area.

📹 Air skates in action, getting the job done.

Our air skates were recently used to float a 3,600-lb pizza oven into place for a retirement community.

With all the pieces of the pie in place, the entire process was seamless. Air skates distribute weight evenly across a cushion of air, which allowed the Clark Food Service Equipment team to move the oven across the fragile subfloor while keeping it level and balanced.

🍕 [New Case Study] Installing a 3,600-lb Pizza Oven Without a Crane or Lift

Residents of a retirement community made it clear: they were ready for pizza parties. So, Clark Food Service Equipment was contracted to renovate their kitchen, which included installing a 3,600-lb pizza oven.

The challenge was getting the oven into the kitchen safely. We spoke with Nate Holton, Assistant Project Manager at Clark Foods, who explained the careful planning required to ensure residents' safety and move the pizza oven as seamlessly as possible.

Using LGH's air skates, they successfully installed the oven, equipping the kitchen for the residents' much-anticipated pizza parties.
