Through creativity, fun, and family engagement, the contest sparks important conversations about staying safe at work and at home, while encouraging the next generation to embrace a safety-first mindset.

We appreciate -Fearns and -Haldimand-Press taking the time to visit CGC’s Hagersville plant and underground mine and tell the story of this more-than-90-year operation.

It is always meaningful to see local reporting that highlights the people and work behind a facility that has been part of the community for generations and remains an important part of Haldimand County’s economy and CGC’s supply chain. From extracting gypsum to producing wallboard and joint compound, the Hagersville team helps connect a local workforce and resource to construction projects across Canada.

We are proud to see CGC’s Director of Human Resources, Joe Bielik, featured in the latest edition of Canadian Mining Journal. In his bylined article, Joe explores how safety is embedded across CGC’s operations in Canada and strengthened through leadership, training, accountability and continuous improvement.

From our Hagersville operation in Ontario, an integrated site that includes an underground gypsum mine and wallboard manufacturing facility, to our Little Narrows gypsum quarry in Nova Scotia, safety is embedded in how we work every day. Strong safety performance is built through people, leadership, clear expectations and continuous improvement.

These operations reflect CGC’s approach to building strong safety culture across the full mine-to-market supply chain. This same commitment extends across our wider manufacturing network, including our Wheatland wallboard facility in Alberta.

Last week, we welcomed Haldimand County Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley, Bobbi-Ann Brady , MPP for Haldimand–Norfolk, and Dr. Leslyn Lewis , MP for Haldimand–Norfolk, to CGC Hagersville for a behind-the-scenes look at one of Canada's few fully integrated gypsum operations.

Since 1931, CGC Hagersville has been a proud part of the local community and a key contributor to . One of the few facilities in the country where underground gypsum mining, milling, wallboard production, and joint compound manufacturing operate together in a single location, the site plays a vital role in supplying essential building materials across Ontario and beyond. Powered by more than 400 dedicated employees, the operation transforms raw gypsum into the products used to build homes, schools, hospitals, and commercial spaces across Canada. This unique end-to-end process continues to attract interest from community leaders, industry partners, and government representatives eager to see Canadian manufacturing and mining excellence in action.

Thank you to our guests for visiting, and to Dale Cox, Plant Manager, Owen Zerr, Mine Manager, and David Haviland, Mine Engineer, for helping showcase the people, innovation, and expertise behind the operation every day. Shoutout to our CGC Surrey and Port Kells teams, who celebrated an incredible milestone: 27 years without a Lost Time Incident (LTI)! 🎉

Twenty-seven years LTI-free. When this safety streak began, DVDs were just gaining popularity and smartphones weren't yet part of everyday life. 💿📱

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the strong safety culture built by our team members and the commitment, accountability, and care they demonstrate every day.
