CGC began in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1907. It was first known as Canadian Gypsum Company and concerned itself primarily with the quarrying and exportation of gypsum rock to the United States. Today, after decades of product development and market expansion, CGC is recognized as a key player in Canada's dynamic building materials industry, supplying innovative wall and ceiling products to the new co

nstruction and repair and remodel markets of the residential, commercial and institutional sectors. The company also supplies materials for industrial uses. These include plasters and cements for art and casting markets, gypsum fillers for the chemical and plastics industry, agricultural gypsum, and mineral fibre products for industrial insulation. CGC operates three mines, five plants and several distribution and customer service centres across the country. CGC benefits from global affiliations and state-of-the-art research and development facilities through its parent company USG Corporation, the leading drywall manufacturer in North America and a world leader in suspended acoustical ceilings. USG has manufacturing, sales and distribution facilities in several international markets, and its products are sold throughout the world.

At CGC, safety is not just a priority. It is a core value that guides every decision we make and every action we take. Our journey to becoming #1 depends on our people looking out for one another, and making our workplaces safer every day.

This Safety Month, we recognize our Safety Champion Award recipients. These individuals lead by example, demonstrate a strong personal commitment to safety, and inspire those around them.

While safety champions exist at every stage of their careers, this group has made a remarkable impact in two years or less at CGC. From day one, they have embraced our safety culture, brought fresh perspectives, and stepped forward to make a difference. They show that meaningful impact does not require years of service, only dedication, leadership, and a genuine commitment to protecting others.

Le mois dernier, l’équipe de CGC Montréal s’est associée à un résident du quartier et à l’organisme de verdissement urbain Soverdi pour transformer un espace de notre site en un véritable havre de verdure 🌿✨

Grâce au soutien d’un financement accordé par Soverdi, 100 nouveaux arbres ont été plantés, améliorant l’aménagement paysager autour de nos installations tout en contribuant à un environnement local plus sain et plus durable.

Ce projet a été une occasion formidable d’enrichir nos espaces verts et de renforcer les liens avec la communauté où nous vivons, travaillons et nous rassemblons chaque jour.

Un immense merci à toutes les personnes impliquées dans cette belle initiative. Ensemble, nous continuons de bâtir des milieux plus verts et des communautés plus fortes pour l’avenir 💚

Last month, the CGC Montreal team partnered with a local resident and urban greening organization Soverdi to transform an area of our site into a vibrant, thriving green space 🌿✨

With the support of grant funding provided by Soverdi, 100 new trees were planted, enhancing the landscape around our facility while contributing to a healthier, more sustainable local environment.

This project was an incredible opportunity to enrich our green space and strengthen our connection with the community where we work, live, and grow together.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring this initiative to life. Together, we’re creating greener spaces and building stronger communities for the future 💚

Proud moment for the CGC Hagersville Mine Rescue Team, who competed in last month’s Southern District Mining Competition following weeks of dedicated training. The team showcased strong technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and emergency response skills, earning the Best Team MCQ Score and the Briefing Officer Award, presented to Erik Easveld.

Team members Josh Stringer, Scott Walton, Al Barber, Ashlee Reitsma, Steve Wilkieson, Paul Hunt, Matt Peebles, Erik Easveld, Devin McIlveen, and Carter Kendrick represented CGC with dedication and teamwork.

While the team won’t be advancing to provincials this year, we’re proud of their performance and the way they represented CGC.

Last week, we proudly celebrated the official opening of our new wallboard manufacturing plant in Wheatland County, Alberta.

The day brought together media, government, community stakeholders, customers, and partners, giving us a chance to mark this milestone with the people who made it possible.

The opening brought together CGC President Steve Youngblut, Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Innovation Joseph Schow, Reeve Scott Klassen of Wheatland County; MLA Chantelle de Jonge for Chestermere-Strathmore, USG President and CEO Christopher Macey, our partners from Knauf Group, Alexander Knauf and Dr. Uwe Knotzer; members of the USG Board of Directors, CGC VP of Manufacturing Steve Forcier, Wheatland Plant Manager Duane VanDuuren, and many other CGC and USG leaders, employees, customers and business representatives from Wheatland County.

Thank you to our partners — Wheatland County, the YourAlberta (Government of Alberta), Invest Alberta, Siksika Nation Tribal Administration — and everyone who took part in the day and helped us mark this significant milestone together.

We look forward to serving Western Canada and helping build the region for generations to come!

La semaine dernière, nous étions très fiers de célébrer l’ouverture officielle de notre nouvelle usine de fabrication de panneaux de gypse à Wheatland County, en Alberta.

Cette journée a réuni des représentants des médias, du gouvernement, de la communauté, ainsi que des clients et partenaires, une belle occasion de souligner cette étape importante avec celles et ceux qui l’ont rendue possible.

Today marks a historic milestone as CGC opens its new wallboard manufacturing plant in Wheatland County, Alberta—a $210M investment strengthening our service across Western Canada and building on over a century of supplying essential materials.

Features of the new facility include:
🍁 Expands Canadian Sheetrock® wallboard production
👷 Creating nearly 100 full-time jobs at the plant
🤝 Supporting approximately 80 additional jobs in the region
🚚 Closer supply to Western Canadian builders
⚙️ Advancing modern manufacturing with efficient, technology-driven operations
🌱 20% lower emissions, 25% less water use, zero waste to landfill

We are proud to mark this milestone alongside with our partners — Wheatland County, YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) , Invest Alberta, Siksika Nation Tribal Administration, USG and Knauf — and grateful to the many employees, customers, community members and supporters who helped make today possible.
