Data center cooling is too critical for guesswork.

At one large data center, maintaining reliable cooling required more than simply monitoring chilled water flow. Operators also needed to verify corrosion inhibitor dosing, track chemical tank levels and bring critical measurements together for maintenance personnel.

The solution used the right measurement technology for each part of the process:

đź’§ MF1000 Magnetic Flow Meters verified chilled water loop flow
⚙️ ProPulse 2 Turbine Flow Meter Sensors measured low-flow corrosion inhibitor dosing
📡 ProScan 3 80 GHz Radar Sensors provided reliable chemical tank level measurement despite foam and v***r
🖥️ ICON displays centralized monitoring and alarm visibility

The result?

More reliable cooling water flow data, improved chemical dosing feedback, reduced overfill risk, fewer manual level inspections and better visibility across the cooling system.

In critical infrastructure, better process visibility helps keep cooling systems doing exactly what they're supposed to do.

In an aquatic life support system, stable flow and level aren’t just process variables — they help protect the life inside the system.

Aquariums, aquaculture facilities, zoos and research facilities depend on carefully controlled water conditions. Changes in flow can affect filtration and oxygenation, while improper tank levels can lead to pump problems or changes in water chemistry.

ICON Process Controls offers instrumentation designed for these sensitive environments:

đź’§ Non-invasive clamp-on ultrasonic flow measurement
📡 Non-contact radar and ultrasonic level monitoring
🧪 Corrosion-resistant options for freshwater and saltwater environments
⚙️ Continuous monitoring without unnecessary intrusion into the process

The result is better visibility into critical water systems while minimizing contact with the water and the aquatic life that depends on it.

Reliable Level Monitoring for Anti-Scalant Dosing

Anti-scalant dosing is essential for protecting reverse osmosis membranes from mineral scale, but unreliable chemical tank level measurement can interrupt dosing and increase the risk of membrane fouling.
A water treatment facility needed a dependable solution for monitoring anti-scalant storage without the maintenance challenges associated with direct-contact sensors.
Icon’s ProScan 3 80 GHz Radar Level Sensor provided continuous, non-contact level measurement, eliminating direct exposure to the chemical while supporting accurate inventory monitoring and automated refill control.
The result was improved chemical availability, reduced maintenance intervention, and greater confidence in the dosing system’s ability to protect critical RO equipment.

Reliable Chemical Level Monitoring in Poultry Processing

Peracetic acid is widely used in poultry processing, but its corrosive properties can make reliable chemical tank level measurement a challenge. Direct-contact sensors may require frequent maintenance or replacement when exposed to aggressive chemicals.

A poultry processing facility needed a dependable way to monitor peracetic acid storage levels and support uninterrupted chemical dosing.

Icon’s ProScan 3 80 GHz Radar Level Sensor provided a non-contact measurement solution, allowing operators to monitor tank levels without exposing the sensor to the chemical. Continuous level data supports improved inventory visibility, refill planning, and protection against unexpected chemical shortages.

By removing the sensor from direct contact with the process liquid, the facility gained a more reliable, lower-maintenance approach to chemical level monitoring.

One Level Measurement Solution. Multiple Industrial Challenges.
Corroded float switches, coating buildup on capacitance sensors, and chemical tanks without available nozzle connections were creating reliability and maintenance challenges at a major automotive manufacturing facility.
Working with a West Coast system integrator, Icon recommended the ProScan 3 80 GHz Radar Level Sensor to standardize measurement across chemical totes, wastewater lift stations, and bulk storage tanks.
The non-contact approach eliminated exposure to corrosive liquids and reduced the impact of coating buildup. For tanks without available nozzles, adhesive tank-top mounting allowed installation without shutdown, hot work, or structural modification.
The result was reliable level data transmitted directly to the PLC, improved process visibility, and reduced downtime and maintenance intervention.

🚨 **Detecting Chemical Leaks Before They Become Major Problems**

Underground chemical piping can be difficult to inspect, making leaks especially challenging to identify before they lead to environmental contamination, equipment damage, or costly cleanup.

In industrial facilities, early detection is essential for protecting personnel, infrastructure, and surrounding soil and groundwater. A leak that remains hidden can escalate long before it becomes visible at the surface.

Icon’s leak detection instrumentation provides continuous monitoring for chemical piping systems, helping operators identify leaks early and integrate alarm signals into facility control systems for a faster response.

Explore how proactive leak detection supports safer, more reliable chemical handling.

Reliable Chemical Monitoring for Critical Laboratory Systems
When chemical feed tanks support HVAC, boilers, cooling towers, and chillers, unreliable level measurement can put more than chemical inventory at risk. Scaling, corrosion, and interrupted dosing can affect equipment protection and the stable conditions required for laboratory operations.
A New England engineering laboratory facility was experiencing repeated mechanical float switch failures caused by chemical buildup, wear, and false low-level alarms.
Icon’s ProScan 3 80 GHz Radar Level Sensor provided a non-contact solution with continuous 4–20 mA output and integration into the facility’s PLC and BAS/SCADA systems.
The results included eliminated float-related maintenance, stable level readings during refilling, improved chemical inventory visibility, and better protection against metering pump dry-run. Following the successful installation, the facility standardized ProScan 3 across its chemical feed tanks.
