Arch Engineer's 40 over 40 continued!

Meet Peyman Azarmina, MSc, P.Eng., PMP, a Senior Structural Engineer with over three decades of experience in civil and structural design. From leading power plant projects across the Middle East to designing bridges and infrastructure here in Canada, Peyman brings both technical mastery and project leadership to every challenge. With expertise spanning energy, transportation, and industrial sectors, he combines precision engineering with a collaborative approach that consistently delivers safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions.

With 30 years shaping structures across the globe, we had to ask a few questions!

Q1) You’ve worked on large-scale power plants and infrastructure across multiple countries. What’s one leadership lesson you’ve learned from coordinating diverse, international teams?
A) Trust is the foundation of every project. Some clients know the field well, others don’t, but all deserve our best. By delivering with confidence and respecting every stakeholder, we build strong, lasting relationships.

Q2) Structural engineers often face the challenge of balancing safety, cost, and sustainability. How do you approach finding the right balance in complex projects?
A) Safety and codes come first, but cost and sustainability are equally vital. I see them as three sides of a triangle, neglect one, and the design fails. My goal is to meet technical standards, then optimize for efficiency, ethics, and long-term value.

Q3) Looking back at your 30+ years in engineering, which project stands out as the most technically challenging, and what made it rewarding in the end?
A) Every new challenge is rewarding. Unfamiliar problems push me to think deeply, test ideas, and collaborate. The most fulfilling moment is seeing those ideas, once just sketches, come to life as real, lasting structures.

Thank you so much for your time Peyman, your wisdom is grateful to us all :). Stay tuned for more, subscribe to our newsletter list: https://32ofr.share.hsforms.com/21SSTzdF5Qam3y_K9RFeexA

Top 40 over 40... by Arch Engineers ;)

Meet Najmeddin Vaseli, Ph.D., P.Eng., PE, a civil and environmental engineer with over four decades of expertise in water resources, hydraulic structures, and environmental engineering. A Ph.D. holder and dual-licensed Professional Engineer in Canada and the U.S., Dr. Vaseli blends academic excellence with practical insight, bringing unmatched depth to every project.

Four decades of engineering wisdom? We had to ask for a sneak peek!

Q1) What key lesson should every young engineer take into the field?
A) A young engineer should pair technical precision with an openness to learning from real-world challenges. While theory forms the foundation, the ability to adapt, collaborate, and think critically in the field is what turns knowledge into impactful engineering solutions.

Q2) In your view, what’s the most critical factor for a successful project?
A) Clear, consistent communication among all stakeholders is the cornerstone of success. Even the strongest technical design can fall short without shared understanding, aligned expectations, and effective coordination from start to finish.

Q3) What’s the most satisfying problem you’ve solved, and why?
A) Designing and implementing a shore protection system along a flood-prone river in Iran was one of the most satisfying projects of my career. It successfully addressed the annual shoreline scouring caused by floods, protecting local infrastructure and communities while maintaining the river’s natural flow dynamics.

We’ve shared our 40-over-40. Now it’s your turn, who’s yours?

Today, we’re celebrating the spirit of innovation, community, and strength that makes Canada truly unique.

As a proudly Canadian engineering team, we’re grateful to help build the infrastructure and connections that support our cities and communities every day.

Here’s to the bridges we build, both literally and figuratively, across this beautiful country.

Happy Canada Day from everyone at Arch Engineers! 🍁

The best engineering is often the least noticeable.

For Ottawa’s LRT Stage 2, our modular bridge decks quietly kept traffic moving above while major construction happened below, proving that true success is sometimes “invisible” in the city landscape.

We balanced safety, access, and efficiency so that residents could go about their day with barely a detour. From custom curves to quick installations, every detail was designed for minimal disruption and maximum impact.

Invisible from above. Essential underneath. That’s the power of precision engineering.

Construction delays are expensive—and avoidable.

When every detail is in place before breaking ground, teams can move forward without unexpected slowdowns. That’s what construction readiness is all about: having the right plans, people, and processes lined up before day one.

At Arch Engineers, we help clients avoid costly surprises by mapping out every step with precision. Because well-prepared projects don’t just start strong—they finish stronger.

Let’s talk about how our approach can prepare your next project for success. 🏗️

Every solid project starts with careful planning and precision.
We believe in measuring twice, so you only have to build once.

From that first line on the blueprint to the final bolt on site, accuracy shapes everything we do.

Because getting it right the first time saves time, money, and headaches down the line.

When the ground moves, your infrastructure shouldn’t fail.

Our structural engineering team specializes in seismic evaluations for bridges, buildings, and industrial structures across British Columbia and Alberta. We analyze everything—from soil response to material behavior—to ensure your assets meet or exceed seismic codes.

Because in earthquake-prone regions, safety isn’t optional. It’s engineered.

The Alex Fraser Bridge in BC was a trailblazer—one of the first cable-stayed bridges in North America.
Spanning over 2,500 meters, it carries more than 120,000 vehicles daily, proving how smart structural engineering can go the distance.
It’s a reminder that great design isn’t just about looks—it’s about function, reliability, and long-term performance.

Engineers don’t just build things. We move cities.

How do you design a bridge that works with nature, not against it? 🌊

We engineered a 23-meter aluminum gangway bridge with a smart counterweight system—light, adaptive, and ready for all seasons. From extreme tidal shifts to fabrication detailing, every element was custom-built to perform under pressure.

It's more than structural design—it's engineering that thinks ahead.
