Kraken Robotics’ Sub-Bottom Imager (SBI) has been deployed across offshore wind developments in Europe, Asia, and North America providing reliable cable detection and 3D acoustic imaging of buried infrastructure across a wide range of seabed conditions.

In Taiwan alone, Kraken has supported surveys across seven of the country’s eight offshore wind farms, from its earliest offshore wind projects through to current developments. Across projects in the region, SBI has achieved cable detection rates of more than 95%.

Imaging buried cables is a difficult technical challenge. Sediment type, burial depth, cable construction, and seabed complexity can all affect acoustic performance. SBI has been purpose-built and continually refined for this application, drawing on years of operational experience across commercial offshore projects.

For route verification, cable depth of burial, and remedial assessment, that experience matters. SBI provides operators with dependable 3D sub-bottom data from the first survey, helping reduce uncertainty and the risk of additional survey work.

Rope, cables, tyres, ladders, anchors, small debris, and mine-like objects can all present differently on the seabed. At lower resolution, these objects may be harder to distinguish from true threats, increasing the risk of missed contacts or unnecessary follow-up investigations.
