⚡ Big milestone for metal additive manufacturing!

The CML Hybrid multi-laser coaxial composite additive system — developed by Keying Funis (linked to Fronius) — has been named to China's MIIT Equipment Industry Development Center 2026 list of typical cases for national industrial "mother machine" innovation products.

Here's why this system is a world first:
🔧 Six independently controllable laser modules paired with a composite arc heat source
🔄 Six-channel powder and wire co-feeding for highly flexible deposition
⚙️ Supports multi-wavelength laser, laser-arc and wire-powder coaxial compositing
🏭 Validated over two years on titanium, copper, aluminum and high-temperature alloys
🚀 Already deployed in aerospace, energy and advanced materials applications

This recognition signals China's accelerating push for homegrown, high-end manufacturing equipment — taking lab-grade additive capability straight onto production floors.

🤖 FANUC is bringing robots, cobots and "Physical AI" to IMTS 2026 — and there is a lot for welders to see!

💡 The big idea: manufacturing is entering a new era where AI lets robots see, reason and act in real production. FANUC is teaming up with Google Cloud, NVIDIA and AWS to make that real on the plant floor.

🔥 Welding and joining highlights:
• New CRX-3iA cobot demonstrates vertical-up welding on structural steel — flexible automation for shipbuilding and heavy fabrication
• Two new R-2000 E Series robots tackle automotive spot welding, with digital-twin support for faster setup
• CRX cobots gain force control, vision and Python, so programming and integration get easier
• Digital twin and virtual commissioning let you validate processes before equipment is even installed

⚙️ Also debuting: the next-gen ROBODRILL DC machining centers and the 500i-A CNC control platform.

📍 See it all at Booth 338900 in Chicago this September!

⚡ Precision welding just leveled up for the AI liquid-cooling era!

At this week's Wuxi Semiconductor Exhibition, Limach unveiled digital micro-arc welding that cracks one of the industry's toughest challenges — ultra-thin wall pipe welding.

🔧 The breakthrough:
• HI-ARC & MICRO-TIG micro-arc processes weld pipes down to 0.01mm with pinpoint heat control
• Current controlled to 0.01 ampere for consistent, repeatable quality
• Dual-layer argon shielding: zero pores, low inner-wall oxidation, high air-tightness
• Built-in digital process database — proven parameters reproduced with one click, no welder-experience dependence
• Purpose-built for semiconductor high-purity lines and AI liquid-cooling fittings

By taming heat input on sub-0.5mm walls, burn-through, distortion, and oxidation are now manageable at scale — meeting the zero-defect demands of high-end manufacturing.

Precision welding is evolving from craft into data-driven science. 🔬

🔥 Attention welders & fabricators: NFPA 51B is the rulebook for fire prevention during hot work — and the current edition is in full effect for 2026.

Here's what the updated standard requires:

🛡️ A dedicated fire watch whenever combustibles sit within 35 feet of welding, cutting, or brazing — no exceptions.
⏱️ The watch doesn't end when the arc stops: a minimum 60-minute post-work fire watch is now mandated.
📋 Streamlined hot work permit lifecycle — clearer rules from issuance to closure keep crews compliant and sites safer.
🏗️ Applies across fabrication shops, construction sites, and industrial facilities — anywhere sparks fly.

Why it matters: most hot work fires start after the work is done. Embers and slag can smolder for an hour or more, which is why the post-watch window is now non-negotiable.

✅ Before you strike that arc:
• Check the 35-foot zone for anything combustible
• Assign a dedicated fire watch — no multitasking
• Keep extinguishers and water within reach
• Stay on watch for a full 60 minutes after finishing

Safety isn't just a rule — it's a habit. Make NFPA 51B part of your routine.

💥 Welding Intelligence Technology just closed a 42 million yuan Series A round — a major vote of confidence for smart welding.

The round was backed by two smart manufacturing industry funds and a leading auto parts manufacturer, and it came in above target. Here's the roadmap:

🔹 40% of funds → core algorithm and robot R&D
🔹 30% → intelligent production line expansion
🔹 Deliver 120 intelligent welding systems within 12 months
🔹 Year-one revenue projected above 90 million yuan
🔹 Within two years: exports to Southeast Asia, Europe and the U.S., with revenue targeting 300+ million yuan

Smart welding is accelerating — AI-driven robots and automated production lines are becoming the backbone of modern manufacturing.

🛠️ New AWS Standard for Welding Qualification Just Dropped

The American Welding Society has released AWS B2.1/B2.1M:2026 — the updated specification for welding procedure and performance qualification. It's the go-to framework for qualifying welding procedure specifications (WPS), welders, and welding operators to consistent, verifiable standards.

What's inside:
✅ Clear requirements for qualifying welding procedure specifications across common processes
✅ Updated criteria for welder and welding operator performance qualification
✅ Streamlined documentation and testing guidance for fabricators and QA teams
✅ Alignment with modern industry practice to keep certification relevant

Why it matters:
🔹 Consistent qualifications mean fewer reworks and safer, higher-quality welds
🔹 A single recognized framework simplifies audits and customer approvals

If your shop certifies welders or works with WPS/PQR records, this update is worth a read. Staying current on standards keeps you competitive.

⚡ Solder joints that refuse to fail — even after 500 thermal cycles!

New research from the Transactions of the China Welding Institution tackles one of electronics manufacturing's toughest challenges: reliable through-hole solder joints on thick circuit boards.

🔧 The Problem
Thick plates (3–5 mm) have long struggled with poor solder pe*******on and void formation — weak points that can fail in the field.

💡 The Solution
Engineers developed a dual-layer synchronous focused induction heating process that delivers precise, even heat:
✅ 100% solder pe*******on on 3, 4 and 5 mm boards
✅ Skirt-shaped joints on both pads for a stronger grip
✅ Dense intermetallic bonding (1–3 μm) between copper pads and SAC305 solder
✅ Clean, defect-free joints — no board burning or overheating

🧪 The Proof
After 500 temperature cycles, joints stayed bright and crack-free. Pull tests broke the pins — not the solder.

A practical win for PCB manufacturing, power electronics and thick-board reliability.
