Every hole in a piece of steel like this has a purpose. Drilled clean, spaced evenly, and ready for bolted connections, this is the kind of detail that gets easy to overlook next to the bigger pieces of a project like this. But precision like this is exactly what large scale steel fabrication depends on, no matter the size of the piece.

This is what it takes to fabricate pipe at a scale like this. Every piece in this ExxonMobil project headed to Texas needs internal bracing strong enough to hold its shape and integrity at this diameter, and getting that bracing right takes as much skill as the welds themselves. Spread out across our shop floor, you can see just how much room a project like this demands. The ladders next to the pipe tell the real story of scale here, and having the machinery, the space, and the crew to lay out, build, and fit the bracing right alongside the pipe itself, all in one place, is what makes a project like this possible from start to finish.

We could not resist sharing a bit more from this ExxonMobil project. This one is headed to Texas, which is a good reminder that our shop’s reach goes well beyond Canada. Watching a job like this take shape in the shop, piece by piece, is genuinely exciting for our whole team. Every part plays a role in the final result, and it is proof of just how much goes into a project before it ever crosses the border.

This is what large diameter pipe fabrication looks like from the inside. This section, headed to Texas as part of an ExxonMobil project, is wide enough to see clean through to the shop floor on the other side. Fabricating pipe at this scale means every weld and every seam has to hold up, since there is no margin for error once it leaves the shop.

Why does steel get painted before it leaves the shop? Because raw fabricated steel is vulnerable the moment it hits a jobsite. Moisture, oxygen, temperature swings, and industrial environments all attack bare steel, and corrosion does not wait around. Coating steel properly is what stands between a structure that lasts decades and one that starts breaking down in a few years.

This is not an afterthought tacked onto the end of a project. It is a controlled, in house process built to protect the steel our clients depend on.

Not all artwork hangs on a wall.

There’s something pretty incredible about raw steel. The texture, the strength, the sparks, and the way each piece takes shape in the hands of someone who knows the craft.
From the first cut to the final weld, every detail takes skill, precision, experience, and a whole lot of pride.

Turning raw material into something strong, functional, and built to last? That’s an art form all its own.
Around here, steel is our canvas.

What does it actually take to know a pipe is safe to use? Hydrostatic testing. Fabricated pressure piping is filled completely with water and then pressurized above its normal operating pressure. If there are any weak welds, porosity, or structural flaws, the test finds them before the pipe ever reaches a jobsite.

Water is the standard testing medium for a simple reason. Unlike air, water does not compress, so if a failure does occur during testing, the release of energy is dramatically lower and safer to manage. That matters when you are testing pipe rated for high pressure oil and gas, industrial, or municipal applications.

Ever wonder who actually works in a pressure piping shop? It is not a generalist role. Fabricating pressure piping to code takes a certified welder or journeyman pipefitter, someone trained to work from P&IDs and technical drawings, understand pipe schedules and material specs, and weld to standards.

It takes years to get good at this. It takes certification to be trusted with it. And it takes a shop that backs that skill up with real standards.
