Earlier this year, the SBM family lost someone who played an important role in shaping our history - David “Dave” Myles.
Dave was the founder of Emcad Consulting Engineers, which merged with SBM in 2017 and became an important part of what is now our MEP Division. He was a predecessor, mentor, colleague, and friend to many members of our MEP team, while his influence and relationships extended throughout SBM.
Throughout his career, Dave built his business around long-lasting relationships founded on trust and mutual respect. Many of the relationships he developed with clients, contractors, and suppliers over the years continued through the Emcad and SBM merger and remain important relationships for SBM today.
For those fortunate enough to know him personally, Dave was much more than an engineer and business owner. He was easy-going, always up for a good time, and deeply valued his friends and family. One of his favorite places was his cottage on Stoke’s Bay, where he could enjoy the views and sunsets with the people closest to him.
Dave passed away peacefully at home with his family on May 21, 2026.
Our thoughts remain with his wife Lynn, his children Dayna and Sean, and the many family members, friends, colleagues, and industry partners whose lives Dave touched.
We are grateful for everything Dave contributed, for the people he mentored, and for the relationships he built. His influence remains woven into the story of SBM, the broader consulting engineering and construction community, and the many communities he helped shape through his work. His legacy will continue through the people, relationships, and places that bear the mark of his contributions.
