Drawing from experience working on a variety of project types and sizes, Callidus Engineering endeavours to provide each one of our clients with thorough investigation and thoughtful analysis of the existing conditions. Armed with this information and the valued input of the stake holders and facility personnel, building condition assessments are prepared and refined. Our services are characterized by a "Hands on" approach where the site investigator is also the report developer and cost estimator. The result is a technically superior analysis and an accurate opinion of costs. Callidus Engineering has a staff of over 30 full time employees, including administration. Callidus has 13 licensed engineers, with over 200 years of combined experience, and three additional designers working towards their engineering licences. Callidus Engineering is licensed to provide engineering services in: Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories & Nunavut, Ontario, Newfoundland & Labrador and Saskatchewan.

Deer Ridge Point by Tricar continues to take shape in Kitchener’s Deer Ridge neighbourhood, bringing new premium rental suites, commercial space, and resident amenities to a growing area near Sportsworld Crossing.

Our team was on site last week checking on progress as construction continues. For a high-rise residential building like this, the mechanical and electrical work supports far more than the systems hidden behind walls and ceilings. It helps create the day-to-day comfort, safety, and reliability residents expect in their suites, shared spaces, and amenity areas.

From comfortable living spaces and well-lit common areas to secure building access, resident lounges, fitness spaces, outdoor terraces, and the infrastructure that supports modern connected living, thoughtful M&E design plays a major role in how a building feels and functions once people move in.

Callidus Engineering recently attended and sponsored the 2026 Kingston Climate Summit at St. Lawrence College, joining people and organizations from across Kingston and the surrounding region for two days focused on climate action, resilience, and practical sustainability.

Presented by ICLEI Canada, the City of Kingston, and Sustainable Kingston, this year’s summit centred on the theme “Shaping Our Future Together.” The event brought people together for panel discussions, workshops, hands-on learning, and conversations about the work already underway to reduce emissions and build a more sustainable future for Kingston.

Representing our team were Derek Reid, Principal in our Kingston office, and Sofia Lancheros, Mechanical Designer and member of our energy modelling team. Their attendance connected naturally with the work Callidus does every day, helping clients make practical, technically grounded decisions around building performance, energy use, and long-term sustainability.

That work is already happening here in Kingston. Callidus recently supported the City of Kingston’s Net Zero Energy strategy through energy audit work across nine municipally owned buildings, helping assess opportunities for long-term sustainability, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas reduction.

After visiting Sioux Lookout last month, our own Luke Reist was back on the road last week, this time in Estevan, Saskatchewan, where Callidus Engineering has been working with SDI Canada on the modular MRI suite addition at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Projects like this involve a lot more than setting a modular unit in place. Our team’s mechanical and electrical scope has included site-related design, modular building coordination, internal renovation work, chiller coordination, and the tie-ins required to connect to the existing hospital infrastructure; plumbing, medical gas, fire alarm & sprinklers, power distribution, communications, nurse call, and access/security.

Check out the latest photos from last week as the construction coordination continues to come together. The modular building is in place, the chiller has been started up, and the interior renovation work is moving toward a completed diagnostic imaging space.

Thank you to Luke for representing our team on site, and to SDI Canada for continuing to bring us into projects that help expand health care access in the communities that need it.

Construction is continuing on the new Lambton College Residence in Sarnia, where our team was back on site again last week, getting a look at the mechanical and electrical systems as they’re coming together. The building is taking shape now!

Once complete, this five-storey residence will add 300 student beds and create new spaces that support day-to-day campus life, including study areas, lounges, fitness space, a café, and outdoor amenities. For students, that means more opportunity to live closer to where they learn. For the broader campus community, it means another step toward a more complete and connected student experience.

Student housing is about more than adding beds. It helps shape how students move through campus, build routines, access support, and feel connected to the place where they are studying

Our London team took some time away from the office late last month for an afternoon of bowling at London’s famous Fleetway Bowling (An amazing place that we’ve had the honour of doing some work on!).

There was plenty of friendly competition on Lane 17, with Peter putting up the top overall score across three games and Sean close behind with a strong showing of his own. Owen and Russ kept the pressure on, but the final scoreboard suggests a rematch may already be in order.

Outside of the scores, it was a good chance for the team to spend time together away from the office, trade a few laughs, and enjoy a well-earned break from project work. The team that plays together wins together!

Last week, our team was back in Northern Ontario community of Sioux Lookout supporting another modular imaging installation with SDI Canada.

Luke Reist, EIT was on site for a field review as the MRI addition moves through final construction, working through system performance under active operating conditions, coordination, and tying the modular building into existing hospital systems while maintaining ongoing operations.

Getting there wasn’t exactly smooth. The flight into Sioux Lookout had its share of rolling turbulence, and Luke handled it the same way he approaches the work on site, steady and focused. Huge thanks to him as always for making the trip and putting in the time where it matters.

These projects continue to show what modular imaging can deliver, expanding an existing hospital with a purpose-built MRI space, integrated with mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems, without the timelines of a traditional addition.

For communities like Sioux Lookout, that means faster access to diagnostic imaging, reduced travel for patients, and more resilient healthcare infrastructure in regions where it’s needed most.

Our team spent Earth Day last week getting outside and cleaning up the communities we work in, continuing a tradition that’s become part of how we operate each year, with staff across Kingston, London, and Kitchener-Waterloo taking part.

In Kingston, the group focused on the Cataraqui River, where one of our team actually managed to pull an abandoned shopping cart out of the river! In London and Kitchener-Waterloo, teams worked through the areas surrounding our offices, picking up anything left behind and leaving the spaces noticeably cleaner.

Each team wrapped up with a well-earned lunch together, a chance to reset after some time outside working to leave things a little nicer than we found them.

It’s a straightforward effort, but it reflects the same mindset we bring to our work. Mechanical and electrical design decisions have a direct impact on energy use and environmental performance, and our focus stays on environmentally conscious designs that hold up over time.

We Make Buildings Work. The work behind that is only possible because of the people who keep everything moving, and that's what we're highlighting on this Administrative Professionals Day.

Across our offices, our administrative team supports every part of the business. They keep financial processes on track, keep teams organized as priorities shift, and handle the day to day coordination that keeps work moving without things slipping through the cracks.

Amie Pierson, Catherine Wauthier, Dawn Schaefer, Erica Peckham, Susan Murray, and Stacey Lively each play a critical role in supporting our teams and keeping operations running smoothly.

This year also marks a transition for someone who has been a part of that foundation for a long time. After 10 years with Callidus Engineering, our own Misi McKone has retired. Her contributions to our accounting department and growth have left a lasting mark on the team, and we wish her the best into the future!

To say we are grateful for the work they put in will always be an understatement. It’s through their essential contributions that we’re able to continue to Make Buildings Work.

Achieving a P.Eng. is a big moment in an engineering career. It reflects years of focused effort, hands on experience, and a commitment to doing the work right.

Our own Gustavo Pereira has reached that milestone and is now a licensed Professional Engineer!

Gustavo brings more than a decade of electrical design experience to Callidus Engineering, building on his background as a professional engineer in Brazil and his continued development here in Ontario. He’s known for his steady approach, strong technical judgment, and the care he puts into getting the details right.

Reflecting on the milestone, Gustavo shared, "I'm happy to receive my P.Eng. licence. It is an achievement that reflects years of dedication, experience, and commitment to the engineering profession. I’m excited for what’s ahead and ready to take on new challenges."

Gustavo is also someone our team genuinely enjoys working with. He brings a collaborative mindset to every project and consistently raises the level of both the work and the people around him.

We were on site last week at the Carpenter’s Union Hall Addition in London for a final look at the completed space.

The project includes a 5,100 sq. ft. addition with a mezzanine, with new mechanical and electrical systems integrated into the existing building. Rooftop HVAC, duct distribution, gas piping, plumbing, lighting, controls, and fire alarm all needed to connect cleanly with what was already in place and perform as intended.

With the addition now complete, the facility has expanded space to support training programs for future carpenters, and It’s always rewarding to see the finished design in use on site.
