ATVs, dirt bikes, and weekend toys are officially back in rotation and so are the trailers that haul them.

One thing to keep in mind as the season ramps up is that load placement matters more than most people think.

Where your equipment sits on the trailer affects tongue weight, stability and braking performance. Even a small shift can change how your trailer behaves on the road.

When it’s set up right, hauling feels smooth and predictable, exactly how it should be.

With longer days and better weather, bikes are coming back out, and so is the question: “What’s the best way to carry them?”

A solid hitch mounted bike rack (like the options we carry from Swagman) makes a big difference, especially when you’re loading multiple bikes or heading out regularly.

• Easy loading
• Secure transport
• Keeps your vehicle organized
• Frees up interior space

If your weekends are starting to revolve around trails again, it’s worth having the right setup to match.

We see it every year, first launch of the season, and suddenly: trailer lights aren’t working properly.

Boat trailer wiring goes through a lot, submersion, winter moisture, and corrosion all add up.

Everything might have worked fine last fall, but early spring is when those issues tend to show up.

Before heading out, it’s worth giving your lights a quick test. It’s a simple step that makes your drive there, and back, a lot smoother.

Boat trailers have it rough; highway travel, then straight into the water.

One thing we always recommend checking early in the season:
Trailer tire condition, not just pressure, but sidewalls.

Moisture, UV exposure, and sitting all winter can cause sidewall cracking or weakening that isn’t obvious at first glance.

Before heading to the lake, take a close look.

A good tire keeps your day on the water from turning into a roadside problem. 🚤

One thing we see a lot at the start of camping season:
👉 setups that technically work but don’t feel quite right.

Over the off season, even small changes can throw things off, including different gear loading, changes in ride height, and adjustments that haven’t been rechecked since last year.

For weight distribution systems, that can mean less balance between your vehicle and trailer, and more sway or movement than you’re used to.

When everything’s properly dialed in, towing a camper should feel controlled and predictable, not something you’re constantly correcting for.

If your first trip this spring felt a bit “off,” it might not be in your head.

This time of year, we start to see a pattern in the shop.
The first few spring tows usually go one of two ways:

✔️ Everything works perfectly
—or—
🛠️ Small issues that went unnoticed over winter suddenly show up

It’s rarely anything major, a sticky latch, a weak connection, something just feeling “off.” But those small things become noticeable the moment your setup is back in motion.
That’s why early season is the best time to catch them.
The sooner you’re confident in your setup, the more you get to enjoy the season ahead.

As camper trailers start coming out of storage, one of the most important places to look is right at the connection point, your hitch and coupler.
After sitting through winter, it’s common to see:
• dry or worn contact surfaces
• slight corrosion buildup
• couplers that don’t latch as smoothly
Even small changes here can affect how securely your trailer sits on the ball, and how it behaves once you’re back on the road.
Before your first trip of the season, take a close look at how everything mates together. A clean, tight connection is what keeps your tow stable, predictable, and stress free from the moment you pull out of the driveway.

When a trailer sits through winter, grease doesn’t always age gracefully.
Cold temperatures and inactivity can cause grease to thicken, dry out, or collect moisture, especially on couplers, hitch balls, and suspension components. In spring, that often shows up as squeaks, grinding, or parts that don’t move as smoothly as they used to.

Refreshing lubrication at key points helps reduce metal on metal wear and keeps everything operating the way it should as towing season picks up.

Quiet, smooth operation isn’t just more comfortable, it’s a sign thing are working properly.

After a wet winter, it’s normal to see a bit of surface rust on towing components, but not all rust is created equal.

Bolts, hitch pins, safety chain mounts, and electrical grounds can develop corrosion that looks harmless, but slowly affects how parts move, lock, or make contact. Over time, that can lead to stiff connections, poor electrical performance, or hardware that’s harder to service when you need it.

Spring is a great time to look closely at high contact areas and moving parts, not just for how they look, but how they function.

Catching wear early keeps small issues from turning into mid season problems.

One of the easiest things to miss after winter is how your towing setup sits.
Months of cold weather, temperature swings, and sitting under load can subtly affect suspension components. The result is often a setup that tows almost the same, but not quite. Slight rear end sag, uneven stance, or a trailer that no longer rides level are common early spring surprises.

These changes can impact braking, steering response, and overall stability, especially once you’re back on the highway for longer trips.

If your setup feels different this spring, trust that instinct. Small changes can have a big effect when you’re towing.
