HEAT DESIGN EQUIPMENT INC

HEAT DESIGN EQUIPMENT INC HDE specializes in advanced infrared heaters for asphalt paving and repair. http://www.asphaltheater.com.

Our Joint Heater ensures seamless pavement bonding, while Heater Patchers and Asphalt Recyclers provide efficient, eco-friendly asphalt restoration. HEAT DESIGN EQUIPMENT INC obtained a patent in 1993 for an apparatus that provides radiant heat energy over a large surface area. The heaters use propane gas as an energy source, and do not need auxiliary batteries and blowers for operation. The heate

r was originally designed to service the hot-in-place recycling industry. In 1995, the province of Quebec began specifying a hot joint for road construction and the asphalt industry had a difficult time finding equipment that would heat the joint at acceptable paving speeds. Part of the specification was that there was not to be an open flame. This hot in place technology applied using a 12 to 16 foot train of patented HDE infrared heaters ensures a seamless compacted bond between the old pavement and the rejuvenated area, extending the life of the pavement to match the mat properties. HDE supplied its first heater in 1995 and since then, has been a major supplier of infrared heating equipment to meet this specification, when paving in echelon was not practical. Other government bodies are considering hot joint specifications because of severe longitudinal joint problems and HDE will continue to supply its high intensity heaters to meet this need. In 2002 HDE began marketing its technology worldwide, expanding its unique technology into the asphalt patching industry after 6 years of developing various patching equipment, through a related company involved in infrared asphalt repair. Our experience has resulted in equipment that is profit oriented in asphalt patching, and is also multifunctional. In 2003 HDE obtained various international patents on a new replaceable heater cartridge that minimized downtime of repair of infrared equipment and ensured easy replacement anywhere in the world.

Fabrication Friday 🔧

Behind every great piece of equipment is a team that’s constantly improving it.

This week, one of our CAD specialists is deep into the revamp of our RAP Recycler—reviewing design details, refining performance, and making sure every component works as efficiently as possible in the field. It’s this kind of hands-on engineering and real-world thinking that helps us keep pushing our equipment forward.

From concept to fabrication, every update is driven by durability, efficiency, and getting more usable material back into your workflow.

Happy National Asphalt Day!

From ancient roads to modern highways, parking lots, runways, and everything in between—asphalt quite literally keeps the world moving.

It’s flexible, durable, recyclable, and when treated right… almost endlessly reusable.

That’s where we come in.
At Heat Design Equipment, we use 100% radiant infrared heat to rework existing asphalt—so instead of ripping it out, you can reuse what’s already there.

Same asphalt. New life. Smarter process.
Because asphalt isn’t just blacktop… it’s built to last.

A snapshot of the shop this week.

Up front is a finished PT200 thermoplastic unit, pulled out for
for instructional video filming.

Also in the scene:
• A freshly painted hotbox build that will use spring‑assist loading doors instead of hydraulics—a practical option for contractors and municipalities working within tighter budgets
• A freshly painted trailer getting anti‑slip coating applied by our team
• A PS4‑200 in the back, getting ready to ship

Multiple builds. Multiple purposes. All moving at once.
