Applications are now open for the 2026 Mel Marshall Engineering Scholarship. 🎓

The scholarship provides $10,000 per year to eligible undergraduate and graduate Civil Engineering students studying at an accredited Canadian university, with the potential for matching funds of up to $20,000 through Mitacs, pending approval.

For graduate students, research must be related to precast concrete. Fourth-year undergraduate students intending to pursue graduate studies in precast-related research are also eligible.

The Bradley Avenue Extension and White Oak Tributary Complete Corridor project in London, Ontario, is a strong example of how Accelerated Bridge Construction and precast concrete can work together on complex municipal infrastructure.

Led by the City of London, with WSP providing design and contract administration support, JAAR Excavating progressing the culvert and foundation work, and Coldstream Concrete manufacturing the precast elements, the project includes a major open-bottom precast culvert system, with large structural elements, phased installation, tight timelines, and challenging field conditions.

Despite unexpected buried infrastructure and winter construction conditions, the project team adapted the precast design, continued off-site production, and kept the work moving forward.

CCPPA is heading to Vancouver this October.

From October 19-22, CCPPA will join CPCI - Canadian Precast Concrete Institute for the 2026 Precast Concrete Convention, bringing together producers, suppliers, engineers, architects, and industry professionals from across Canada.

The four-day program will include technical education, industry discussions, networking, and several joint CCPPA/CPCI events - including the Welcome reception, BMO Economic Forecast luncheon, and Carbon Conversations session.

We're looking forward to connecting with members and the wider precast concrete community in Vancouver.

When public infrastructure is built with locally manufactured products, more of that investment stays close to the communities it is meant to serve.

Infrastructure dollars do more than pay for the final product. They support local manufacturing facilities, skilled workers, material suppliers, trucking companies, engineers, inspectors, contractors, and many other businesses involved in getting a project from design to completion.

Choosing local is not only about where something is made. It is about strengthening the supply chains, labour force, and industry knowledge that help communities build and maintain reliable infrastructure over the long term.

Every project has an economic footprint.

When we invest in local infrastructure, we should also be thinking about how that investment supports the people and businesses behind it.

At the Wellings of Stittsville Senior Living Complex, a unique infrastructure challenge required a practical and creative solution.

As Phase 2 of the development progressed, the project team needed to create a safe, comfortable connection between the buildings while avoiding disruption in a high-traffic area used by residents, staff, and emergency vehicles.

To bring the underground connection to life, LAURIN, S.W.Farrell & Sons 1979 Ltd., the architect, structural engineer, and MCON Products worked together to develop a custom underground pedestrian tunnel using 3000 x 2400 mm precast box culvert sections.

The technical challenge came from the offset between the two building entry points, which required custom precast components and careful coordination to create the proper underground alignment.

From plant workers and quality control teams to drivers, engineers, inspectors, contractors, installers, suppliers, and municipal staff, every project depends on a skilled workforce behind the scenes.

As we move through one of the busiest times of the construction season, it is important to recognize the local labour that supports the infrastructure we use every day.

Concrete pipe and precast manufacturing help us support skilled jobs in communities across Canada. These are the people who produce, deliver, install, and maintain the systems that keep roads, developments, sewer networks, and public spaces functioning.

Local infrastructure starts with local people.
