Standing nearly 30 feet tall, this monumental ciborium magnum is a masterwork of contemporary metal fabrication seamlessly integrated into historic sacred architecture. Fabricated from custom-formed aluminum and adorned with various 3D printed elements to achieve the visual richness and gravitas of traditional ecclesiastical metalwork while meeting modern structural and weight requirements. Every column, arch, and tracery element was carefully proportioned to echo the cathedral’s original architecture—creating a piece that feels timeless rather than newly introduced.
The ciborium’s multi-tiered canopy draws the eye upward, culminating in a finely detailed pinnacle that mirrors the surrounding vaults and stained-glass rhythms. Intricate ornamental profiles were precision-cut and hand-finished to achieve exceptional depth and shadow play, ensuring the structure remains visually dynamic from every angle within the nave.
Finished in a warm, gilded tone, the aluminum surface captures and reflects ambient light from the sanctuary lighting as well as the structures integral lighting, giving the piece a luminous presence that enhances the altar without overpowering it. The result is a harmonious balance of reverence and craftsmanship—bold in scale, refined in detail.
It has been a pleasure working with Carlos and his team at FPDR Ltd. We are honoured to have been chosen to bring their vision to life.
