Yesterday, we had the opportunity to celebrate an important milestone with UBC Okanagan and members of the local community: the commissioning of a 1.5 MW Vitalis Coolshift™ R744 (CO2) air-source heat pump for the campus low-temperature district energy system, currently the largest of its kind in North America.

From the early design discussions to its real-world operation this past winter, this project has been defined by tight collaboration between UBCO and the Vitalis team. The system is now playing a central role in reducing campus GHG emissions and achieving UBCO's 2030 climate targets ahead of schedule.

Projects like this are built through long-term thinking and shared commitment. Even sweeter is the fact that it proves what is possible with local talent, including several UBCO alums.

The system was designed and built in Kelowna and is delivering impact at home.
