If you’re adding stump grinding to your rental fleet or landscaping lineup, one question is worth asking: what does a bad day look like?

🔧 Belt drive: a worn or snapped belt. That’s a fairly quick swap and a modest repair bill.

💥 Hydraulic drive: Usually it runs great, but when a pump, motor, or hose does fail, it can mean more downtime and a bigger repair.

Both have their fans, and plenty of operators swear by hydraulic. But when grinding is a side line rather than your main gig, a lot of businesses like the simplicity of a belt drive, especially with renters or newer operators at the controls.
